PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jason Bashor (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jack The Ripper (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jason Bashor!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jack The Ripper!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Skip Squint and Eliza Hachem.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bashor stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Bashor wants it to stay on the feet.
Bashor avoids a punch combination nicely.
The Ripper throws out a powerful jab.
Sloppy strikes from The Ripper. Those never looked like landing.
The Ripper misses with a jab, cross combination.
Bashor doesn't succeed with the takedown
and The Ripper counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
The Ripper stalks Bashor and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Bashor's face. Bashor staggers backwards, shaken.


It looks like Jason Bashor has been cut.

The Ripper shoots and misses

so Bashor counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Bashor throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as The Ripper works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Bashor is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Bashor working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Bashor looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks The Ripper with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

The Ripper is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
The Ripper is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Bashor scores with a couple of nice shots.

Bashor passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for The Ripper!

The Ripper regains half guard.
Well, if Bashor is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Bashor takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
The Ripper is looking for a sweep. Bashor is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
The Ripper is trying to maintain the position but Bashor is very close to passing his half guard.
Bashor winds up and cracks The Ripper with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

The Ripper looks to land a combination but Bashor avoids it well.
The Ripper lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by The Ripper.

The Ripper shoots in for a takedown but Bashor shows good takedown defense.
The Ripper misses with a hook. Bashor ducked under it nicely.

Bashor moves out of range as The Ripper strikes.
The Ripper lands a jab.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
The Ripper connects with a nice looking jab.
The Ripper scores to the head and body with a nice combination!

The Ripper dives in and scores a takedown into Bashor's guard.
Bashor pulls The Ripper in close to his closed guard and prevents The Ripper from doing any damage or advancing position.

It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Bashor is pulling down on The Ripper's head to control his posture.

Jason Bashor has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
The Ripper lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!

Bashor shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has The Ripper pinned against the cage. The Ripper gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

That was a close second round but I would say that Jason Bashor will probably get the nod.

The Ripper throws an overhand right that lands on Bashor's shoulder, as Bashor tries to avoid the shot.

Bashor is in close to The Ripper's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Bashor with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Bashor wants to pass the guard but The Ripper is defending well.
Bashor is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Bashor lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
The Ripper tries to get to full guard but Bashor has control of the leg.
Bashor has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Bashor wants to work for an arm triangle but The Ripper is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Bashor is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
The Ripper manages to get to full guard.

Bashor landing with the ground and pound.
Bashor seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

The Ripper fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
The Ripper throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Bashor sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Jack The Ripper seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Bashor shoots for a double leg takedown but The Ripper sprawls well. He's pushed Bashor's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jason Bashor showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Bashor, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
