PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jim Miller (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Clay Guida (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jim Miller!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Clay Guida!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Wesley Smith and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Guida misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Guida cracks Miller with an open hand slap.
Miller closes the distance and clinches up with Guida, looking for a takedown. Miller pushes Guida against the cage but Guida circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Guida swats away the attempt to clinch by Miller.
Guida displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Miller.
Miller slips a jab and a cross from Guida.
Miller moves in looking to clinch but Guida pushes him off.
Guida fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
A low kick from Guida misses

and Miller counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Guida wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Miller has him pressed against the cage.
Guida drops down looking for an ankle pick but Miller pulls his leg out and moves away.
Guida rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Miller moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Nice defenses there by Guida.
Miller moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Guida gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Miller has Guida pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Miller pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Guida tumbling to the mat - Miller dives into Guida's guard.
Miller controlling from the top position.
Miller landing with the ground and pound.
Miller wants to control from the top but Guida keeps moving.
Miller missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Guida is trying to keep Miller in close.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Guida holds on and takes a little breather.
Guida keeping moving, preventing Miller from controlling successfully.
Miller throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Nice cross by Guida.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Miller will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jim Miller. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Guida leaves Miller with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Guida throws a series of punches but Miller avoids them all with ease.
Guida throws a shot from downtown. Miller moves away and avoids it.

Miller moves into the clinch.

Guida is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Guida breaks the clinch.
Miller tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Guida paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Miller tries to score a power double leg takedown but Guida sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Miller somewhat.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Miller.
Miller scores with the left hand. Guida knows he should have avoided that one.
Guida throws a right hand that Miller ducks under and follows up with a left that Miller also avoids with ease.
Guida swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Miller misses with a wild combination.
Miller throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Guida's waist but Guida gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Miller off to one side.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Guida throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Guida swats away the attempt to clinch by Miller.
Miller rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Guida moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Guida swings for the body but Miller moves out of range.

Oooooh!!! Miller has knocked Guida down with a huge combo! Miller steps away and waves a wobbly Guida back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!


Guida is rocked!


It looks like Clay Guida has been cut.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Miller scores with a takedown into Guida's guard.
Guida is still in real trouble! Can Miller finish him?
Miller pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Guida is keeping the position for now.
Guida is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Guida is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Guida seems to have recovered his senses.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Miller trying to control but Guida is working from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Miller drops Guida with a beautiful combination! Guida stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Miller is looking for the KO!
Guida wants to clinch up but Miller keeps it at a distance.

Miller decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Guida is not content to let Miller control the position.
Guida is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Miller seems to be looking for submissions.
Miller sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Guida defending well though.
Guida is refusing to be controlled, as Miller sits in half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Guida is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Miller's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Miller's back!
Guida is not going to allow Miller to sit and survive in this position.
Miller is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.
Miller trying to control the hands but Guida breaks the grip.

Guida is looking for a rear naked choke here but Miller reverses the position brilliantly into Guida's guard!
Miller lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Guida is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Miller throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Guida works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Miller is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Guida looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Miller puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Guida tries to roll over but Miller keeps him under control.
Guida is looking to control Miller's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Guida avoid being mounted?
Guida gets full guard.

Miller wanted to stand there but Guida had control of the position.
Guida not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Miller lands a couple of digs.
Miller trying to control but Guida is working from the bottom.
Miller throws a big elbow that misses.
Miller is looking to stand up but Guida won't let him.
Miller is in close to Guida's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Miller won't allow Guida to get back to his feet.
Guida is adopting a defensive guard.
Guida is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Miller wants to control from the top but Guida keeps moving.
Jim Miller overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Guida pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Miller tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Miller tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Guida paws at him with a jab and circles away.
A good leg kick by Guida.
Guida throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Miller sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Guida throws a right and a left that Miller avoids nicely.
Miller takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Guida throws a combination that misses

and Miller counters with a crisp one two that drops Guida! Miller thinks about following him to the mat for a moment but instead steps back and waves Guida to his feet! Guida is in big trouble!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Miller circles and sees the opportunity to plant his feet and throw a really nice straight left hand that drops Guida to the canvas! Guida doesn't know where he is but he's trying to survive - Miller keeps piling on the pressure and forces the referee to step in! This one is aaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:48 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jim Miller!
Jim Miller very nearly forgot to thank CEC Nutrition Q160 amongst all the excitement of his win but just as the interview came to a close, he screamed their name. Hopefully he'll get a few nice freebies in the mail as a thank you.
