The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Boyd fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Boyd misses with a two punch combination.
Boyd gets caught flat footed, as Gatlin shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Gatlin stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Boyd swivels though and keeps the full guard. Gatlin must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Boyd has his foot on Gatlin's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Gatlin works his way back into a safe position though. Boyd has his feet on Gatlin's thighs here. He's pushed Gatlin off and worked for a very quick armbar from the bottom! He's flipped onto his stomach and he's cranking hard on the arm! Gatlin screams in pain and taps out! This one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:47 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Ray Boyd!
