Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Filipe Mendes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Itto Ogami (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Filipe Mendes has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Filipe Mendes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Itto Ogami!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Shimada, Tatsuya Matsuyama and Hirohito Nitta.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ogami stuffs the takedown.
Mendes shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Ogami as he avoids it easily.
Ogami swats away the attempt to clinch by Mendes.
Mendes throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Ogami's waist but Ogami gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Mendes off to one side.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Filipe Mendes. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Mendes fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Ogami tries to clinch but Mendes moves out of range.
Mendes closes the distance and clinches up with Ogami, looking for a takedown. Mendes pushes Ogami against the cage but Ogami circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Mendes has a takedown stuffed.
Ogami lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!


It looks like Filipe Mendes has been cut.
Ogami fakes the leg kick and cracks Mendes in the body.
Mendes is breathing heavily.

A head kick lands from Ogami that sends Mendes to the canvas. Mendes tries to scramble back to his feet but Ogami brings him back down into side control.


Mendes is rocked!

Ogami stands up.
Oh Mendes is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Mendes shoots in for a double leg but Ogami sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Ogami closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Mendes seems to have got his legs back now.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Knees in the clinch landing for Ogami.
Ogami will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Mendes up against the cage.

Ogami breaks from the clinch.

Ogami closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Ogami has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Mendes doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Ogami counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Ogami postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Mendes is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Ogami, into his guard.
Ogami wants to stand up but Mendes is controlling him.

Ogami pushes Mendes off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Mendes shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Ogami pinned against the cage. Ogami gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Ogami!
Mendes is looking to clinch.
No luck for Mendes with that takedown attempt.
Mendes misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Mendes shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Ogami pinned against the cage. Ogami gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Mendes has closed the distance and engaged Ogami in a clinch.

Ogami blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Ogami controlling the action here for a moment.
With the two fighters working up against the cage, Ogami just misses with a elbow thrown towards Mendes's brow.
Ogami with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head.
Ogami goes for a takedown in the clinch but Mendes prevents it.
Ogami looking to slow down the pace here.
Ogami gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head.

Ogami breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Mendes stuffs the takedown attempt from Ogami. Ogami gets slowly back to his feet.
Nice takedown defense from Ogami. No joy for Mendes on that attempt.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Mendes crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Ogami - the referee stops the clock and Mendes gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Ogami. Mendes manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.

Ogami closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Ogami breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Mendes.
Filipe Mendes seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Ogami instigates a clinch.
Mendes tries to pull guard but Ogami won't allow it.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Ogami takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.

Ogami has picked Mendes up - he's going for a ride! Ogami dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Ogami lands strikes from half guard.
Mendes is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Mendes is controlling Ogami's position as best he can from this difficult position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

and Ogami counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Ogami.

Mendes looks to land a body kick but Ogami moved away.
Ogami lands a nice hook to Mendes's body. Mendes takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Mendes is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Ogami clinches up with Mendes and pushes him back against the cage.
Mendes tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Mendes manages to break the clinch.
Mendes shoots for a double leg takedown but Ogami sprawls well. He's pushed Mendes's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Mendes fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

and Ogami holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Ogami is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
Mendes wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Mendes tries to pull guard but Ogami holds him up against the cage and eventually Mendes drops back down to his feet.
Ogami lands an elbow inside that Mendes shrugs off.
Mendes takes an elbow to the forehead.

Mendes escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Nice sprawl there from Mendes as Ogami shoots in.
Mendes doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Ogami counters with a takedown into side control.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Ogami decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Mendes closes the distance but Ogami moves to the side

and Ogami moves into the clinch.
Ogami lands a damaging elbow.

Ogami dodges the punch combination from Mendes.

and Ogami counters with a head kick. That will keep Mendes thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!

A head kick from Ogami lands but Mendes takes it in his stride.

Mendes shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Ogami has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Mendes off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

Mendes feints and as Ogami raises his hands in defense, Mendes changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Mendes is pushing down on Ogami's leg trying to pass to half guard. Ogami is fighting to maintain full guard but Mendes has managed to sneak the leg through.
Mendes winds up and cracks Ogami with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Mendes is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Ogami defends it well.

Ogami is desperately trying to improve his position but Mendes has a good base and remains in mount.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Ogami is in a horrible position here. Mendes smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Itto Ogami showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Ogami throws a nice inside leg kick.

and Ogami counters with a head kick. That will keep Mendes thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!

Mendes has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Ogami regains guard immediately.

Ogami uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Ogami shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Mendes but Mendes pushes him off and we're back to square one.

and Mendes counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Ogami!

Ogami somehow manages to escape the mount and get back to his feet!

Ogami shoots in and drives through. Mendes sprawls well.

Ogami gets a clinch.

Mendes jumps into guard, dragging Ogami to the mat.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Mendes is looking for a triangle but Ogami pushes his legs off easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ogami trying to control the position from guard on top but Mendes is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Mendes has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Filipe Mendes has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Mendes is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Itto Ogami comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Ogami has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
