PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Frank Lucas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and David Paul (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Paul has chosen Omerta as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Frank Lucas!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, David Paul!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Paul misses with a two punch combination.
Lucas shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Paul pinned against the cage. Paul gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Lucas looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Paul!

Paul defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Lucas.
Lucas thowing shots but they're missing.
Paul tries to hold on but Lucas pushes him away.

Lucas looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Lucas avoids the attempt from Paul to control.
Paul working to try and regain half guard.
Paul tries to hold on but Lucas pushes him away.
Paul is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Lucas is staying active.
Paul blocking the ground and pound.
Lucas throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

Lucas swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Paul is now in Lucas's guard. A big mistake from Lucas there, giving up the dominant position!

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Lucas has a closed guard, preventing Paul from standing up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Despite being in the dominant position, David Paul just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Lucas slips under a jab.
Lucas fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Paul keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Lucas misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Paul.
Paul throws a nice looking combination but Lucas bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Paul throws a combination. Lucas tries to block but a couple of punches get through.


It looks like Frank Lucas has been cut.
Paul throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Paul throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Lucas.
Lucas shoots in looking for a takedown. Paul tries to sprawl out of it but Lucas keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Paul manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Frank Lucas. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Lucas tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Paul swivels and escapes.
Lucas scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
David Paul seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Paul circles to his right before unloading a perfect head kick! Lucas drops to the canvas, hurt badly! Paul follows Lucas to the ground and unloads with a series of strikes that force the referee to step in and end the fight! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:08 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). David Paul!
