PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Toby Boi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Grease (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Boi might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to "Stricken" by Disturbed. John Grease will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Toby Boi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, John Grease!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Damien Edna and Hugh Johnson.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Grease misses with an attempted mid kick.
Grease lands with a shot to the body.
Grease takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Grease throws a nice outside leg kick.
Grease keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Boi tries to move into range but Grease moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Boi slips a jab and a cross from Grease.
Grease throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Boi.
Boi fails in his attempt to clinch.
Boi scores with a one two! Grease had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Boi takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Boi throws a hook to the side of Grease's head but Grease sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Boi feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Grease wants to stand but Boi is controlling the position.
Boi missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Grease works over Boi's head and body with a nice combination.

Boi wants the takedown. Grease is fighting it off but Boi persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Grease's guard against the cage.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Grease's corner calls for a 1-2. Grease obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Boi fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Grease on the side of the head.

Boi changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Grease tries to avoid it but Boi manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Grease to the ground. Grease escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Boi is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Grease.

and Grease counters with a flying knee. Nice.
Boi swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Boi takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Grease throws a right and a left that Boi avoids nicely.
Grease clobbers Boi with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.

Grease misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Grease gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Grease pushes Boi off and scrambles back to his feet.

Boi throws a nice looking combination but Grease bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Grease scores with a sloppy right hand. Boi should have avoided that one.

Grease thuds his right hand into Boi's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Boi fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Toby Boi. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Boi takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Boi has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Grease.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

and Grease counters with a series of strikes. Boi will be more careful next time no doubt.

Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Grease.

Boi misses with a takedown attempt - Grease sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Grease just misses with a punch to the body.
Boi shoots for a takedown but Grease saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

John Grease showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Grease wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Grease will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Boi up against the cage.

Grease has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Boi is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Boi shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Grease as he jumps to the side.

and Boi counters with a left and a right that stings Grease.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Boi decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Boi catches Grease with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Grease forces Boi back against the cage and clinches.
Boi is looking to control Grease's arms but Grease gets an underhook and turns him. Now Boi has his back to the cage.
Grease is trying to break the clinch but Boi has him pressed against the cage.
