The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Liu lands an overhand right.
Cruz throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
Liu throws a looping overhand right but Cruz ducks down to avoid it.
Liu lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Cruz shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Liu eats them both and turns towards Cruz to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
Cruz doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Liu scores with a jab.

Liu tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Cruz was well out of range. Poor timing from Liu.
Cruz takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Liu turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Liu throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.

Cruz takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.

Liu shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Liu loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Cruz working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Liu.
Liu working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Cruz wants to sweep here but Liu controlling him for the moment.
Liu keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Cruz's head.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Cruz is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Cruz has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Liu has passed into side control.
Liu in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.

It looks like Kale Cruz has been cut.

The strikes coming from Liu are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
Cruz is looking for a sweep.
Liu has knee on belly momentarily but Cruz bucks him off and regains half guard.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Liu takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Liu clobbers Cruz with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Liu thows a body kick. Cruz tries to catch it but that hurt him.
Liu lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Cruz slips under a jab from Liu.
Liu misses with a straight right.
Cruz defending well as Liu loads up on a big left hand.

Cruz is rocked!

Kale Cruz's cut is getting worse.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Cruz moves forwards but Liu connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Oh Cruz is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Liu throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Jie Liu seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Liu drops Cruz with a huge uppercut! Cruz drops to the floor like a sack of potatoes. Liu is raining down punches and the ref stops the fight! This one is all over!
