Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jeremi Olszewicz! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Gerritt Cole! The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Robert Douchet and Yves DeLean.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Olszewicz wants to clinch but Cole slips to the side and Cole counters with a nice double leg into guard. We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace. Olszewicz trying to keep a closed guard but Cole is proving a slippery customer.
Cole looking to sit in guard and control but Olszewicz gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Cole throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Olszewicz won't allow Cole to sweep him here. The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cole has his hands on Olszewicz's head, controlling the position. Olszewicz wants to control from the top but Cole keeps moving. Cole is looking for a triangle but Olszewicz pushes his legs off easily.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Cole holds on and takes a little breather.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Olszewicz stopping the sweep attempt from Cole. Cole looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
The ref stands the fighters back up. Gerritt Cole was stalling too much, according to the referee. Cole keeps the fight on the outside. Olszewicz throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Cole.
It looks like Gerritt Cole has been cut. This has been an exciting period of action! Olszewicz moves to clinch but Cole breaks away and Cole counters with a stiff right hand.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Olszewicz misses with a head kick.
Olszewicz has Cole up against the cage in a clinch.
Cole blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning. Cole drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Olszewicz with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head. Olszewicz fails to pull guard.
Cole gets a trip takedown into half guard. Cole looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. Olszewicz tries to get to full guard but Cole has control of the leg.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Cole is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Olszewicz is just riding it out for now. Cole eventually gives up the hold. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Cole is trying to control the action in half guard but Olszewicz is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Olszewicz wants to control but Cole is keeping busy and won't allow it. Cole wants to pass to mount but Olszewicz is defending the position. Olszewicz is looking to control Cole's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Olszewicz avoid being mounted? And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Gerritt Cole dominated that round. The cut man is working on Gerritt Cole's cut. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
Olszewicz looks for the body kick but Cole saw that one coming. Olszewicz wants to clinch. Olszewicz tries to clinch there but Cole circles away.
Cole tries to keep at a distance but Olszewicz has taken the fight into the clinch. Cole throws an elbow but it misses.
Olszewicz unloads a knee to the mid-section. Cole lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh. Cole is struggling to control the position. Olszewicz utilising his Muay Thai to score with a knee to the body. Olszewicz decides to pull guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cole drops back looking for a leg! Olszewicz is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Olszewicz manages to kick Cole off! Cole jumps back into Olszewicz's guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Cole got a little sloppy there for a moment and Olszewicz has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Cole has managed to get both his arms back between Olszewicz's legs - danger averted. Olszewicz is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control. Cole wants to control from the top but Olszewicz keeps moving.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Cole stopping the sweep attempt from Olszewicz. Cole slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. Olszewicz is not in a great position here, taking some shots. Olszewicz knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Cole on the ground. Cole looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Olszewicz is looking for a sweep.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Cole cracks Olszewicz with a big right hand but Olszewicz just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Olszewicz tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Cole presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount! Cole has hold of an arm here, looking to extend it. He's committed to the armbar attempt here! Will he get it?! Yes! Olszewicz is forced to tap!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:30 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Gerritt Cole!
