PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Inspectah Deck (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Aristos Ioannidis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Deck comes to the cage accompanied by Wu-Tang Clan "Protect Your Neck". Ioannidis comes into a darkened arena with his song building. If I Can't - 50 Cent kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Inspectah Deck!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Aristos Ioannidis!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Dillan Fox and Elvis Blanc.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ioannidis throws the left hand but Deck avoids the punch easily.
Deck lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Ioannidis circles away quickly and effectively.
Aristos Ioannidis seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Deck has closed the distance and engaged Ioannidis in a clinch.

Deck breaks from the clinch.

Ioannidis shoots in and bounces Deck off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Deck pulls Ioannidis in close to prevent any damage.
Deck is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Ioannidis is concentrating on defense, preventing Deck from advancing position.
Deck is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.

Deck thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Ioannidis's head.

Deck looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Ioannidis with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Deck seems to be working for a kimura but Ioannidis defends the submission attempt.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Deck winds up and cracks Ioannidis with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Deck not doing much here.
Deck is thwarting Ioannidis's attempts to control the position.
Deck wants to pass to mount but Ioannidis is defending the position.
Deck takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Ioannidis looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Deck stalling.
Deck has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Deck is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Ioannidis won't allow Deck to pass to mount.
Ioannidis is staying active underneath Deck, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Ioannidis tries to roll over but Deck keeps him under control.
Deck controlling the pace.
Deck prevents Ioannidis from standing back up.
Ioannidis blocking the ground and pound attempt from Deck.
Deck is pressing down on Ioannidis's thigh, looking to free his foot. Ioannidis is holding on for now.

Deck wants to lay and pray for a moment but Ioannidis keeps working.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Inspectah Deck.

Ioannidis pushes Deck up against the cage in a clinch.
Deck works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Deck lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
Deck tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Still in the clinch, Deck scores with a nice short uppercut.
Deck controlling the action here for a moment.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Ioannidis is trying to pull guard but Deck has him pressed against the cage.
Deck scores with an uppercut up the middle.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Deck moves into the clinch.
Ioannidis has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Ioannidis is looking to break free of the clinch but Deck has double underhooks.

Deck breaks from the clinch.
Deck tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Ioannidis clinches up with Deck and pushes him back against the cage.

Ioannidis tries a head kick but it misses.
Nice sprawl there from Deck as Ioannidis shoots in.
Ioannidis shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Deck but Deck pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Deck scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
No luck for Ioannidis with that takedown attempt.
Inspectah Deck has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Aristos Ioannidis.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Deck.

The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.

Ioannidis is breathing heavily.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Deck tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Ioannidis was well out of range. Poor timing from Deck.
A solid leg kick lands there for Deck.
Ioannidis shoots in for a takedown but Deck shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Ioannidis jumps guard and drags Deck to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Deck's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Deck stands up over Ioannidis, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Deck trying to control but Ioannidis is working from the bottom.
Deck postures up in Ioannidis's guard and throws a big left but Ioannidis blocks it.

Ioannidis has an active guard here but Deck has managed to pass into half guard.

Deck is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Ioannidis has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Ioannidis tries to reverse the position but Deck maintains control.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

That's time! Deck's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Deck stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.

Ioannidis clinches up with Deck and pushes him back against the cage.

Deck ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Deck no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Deck holds on and takes a little breather.
Deck is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Ioannidis wants to control from the top but Deck keeps moving.
Deck looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Ioannidis wanted to stand there but Deck had control of the position.

Deck looking for a guillotine here but Ioannidis defends easily.

Deck is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Ioannidis fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Ioannidis closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Deck to the mat! Deck manages to get full guard.

Deck looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Ioannidis must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Ioannidis wants to stand and escape but instead Deck has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Ioannidis tries to kick Deck off but Deck keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Ioannidis is trying to stand up here but Deck is controlling him well.

Deck keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Ioannidis's head.
Ioannidis takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Deck looking to sit in guard and control but Ioannidis gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Deck is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Ioannidis tries to free his leg and advance position but Deck is retaining full guard.

Inspectah Deck overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Aristos Ioannidis has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Inspectah Deck is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Deck has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

And that's the end of the fight!
Inspectah Deck showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Deck has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
