Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Adrian Lewis! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Billy Payne! The judges for this bout are James Glass, Steven Brown and James Atkins.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Payne closes the distance and clinches up with Lewis, looking for a takedown. Payne pushes Lewis against the cage but Lewis circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world. Payne gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Lewis pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Payne is keeping the position for now. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Lewis pushes down on Payne's leg and manages to get into half guard. Lewis works his way into side control. Lewis is looking to take a break and control but Payne is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Lewis wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Payne, who protects the arm well. Payne is trying to get back to half guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Lewis is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Payne has escaped the position, nice work there. That's one minute gone in the round. Payne is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Lewis tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Payne sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard. Lewis is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Payne doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Lewis. Lewis has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Payne should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete. Lewis working for a guillotine from mount but Payne is in no mood to give up.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Lewis fails to advance to Payne's back. Lewis looking to control but Payne is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Lewis working for a submission here. He's tucked his head under his opponent's arm, looking for an arm triangle. He's hopped off into side control, looking to tighten the submission... is it going to work? He's given up a good position looking for it. Payne looks OK. Oh, I spoke too soon, he's out! That must have been tighter than I thought! Excellent work there by Lewis! Submission of the night perhaps?
