Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Darius Grimshaw! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jason Kaplan! The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Leandro Rodrigues and Daniel Cesar.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Grimshaw lands with a kick to the ribs.
Kaplan scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup. Grimshaw is trying to control Kaplan's posture but Kaplan avoids it. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Kaplan controls the position from side control. Grimshaw is looking for a sweep. Kaplan working the ground and pound.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kaplan working away. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Grimshaw dodges the ground and pound from Kaplan. The ground and pound from Kaplan seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent. Grimshaw is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Grimshaw is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Kaplan's leg. He's managed it. Nice work. Kaplan drops an elbow to the side of Grimshaw's head. Kaplan has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Grimshaw is looking to control Kaplan's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Grimshaw avoid being mounted? Grimshaw could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Grimshaw moves into full guard.

We're going to have a standup here because Darius Grimshaw wasn't active enough for the referee's liking. Grimshaw moves away from the strike by Kaplan. Grimshaw gets caught flat footed, as Kaplan shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Grimshaw is on top in guard.
Grimshaw wants to control from the top but Kaplan keeps moving.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Kaplan had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Grimshaw defends it easily. Grimshaw stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kaplan swivels though and keeps the full guard. Grimshaw has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Kaplan controls Grimshaw momentarily but Grimshaw frees himself. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Jason Kaplan will probably get the nod. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Kaplan looks for a takedown but Grimshaw sprawls well. A clash of legs there as Kaplan blocks the low kick. Kaplan misses with a wild body shot. Kaplan looks to land a left hand but Grimshaw moved out of range nicely. Kaplan shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Grimshaw as he avoids it easily. Kaplan shoots and misses and Grimshaw counters by moving into the clinch. Darius Grimshaw has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jason Kaplan. Kaplan tries to work over Grimshaw's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target. Grimshaw gets a trip takedown into half guard. Grimshaw is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Kaplan is just riding it out for now. Grimshaw eventually gives up the hold. Grimshaw scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kaplan is not content to let Grimshaw control the position. Grimshaw is looking to stall here but Kaplan recovers full guard. Grimshaw looking to sit in guard and control but Kaplan gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Kaplan accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Grimshaw has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Kaplan can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Grimshaw not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Grimshaw can't keep his opponent in guard - Kaplan advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. Kaplan is thwarting Grimshaw's attempts to control the position. The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Kaplan lands a nice short elbow. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Darius Grimshaw dominated that second round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!
Kaplan looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. Grimshaw wants to control but Kaplan is keeping busy and won't allow it. Grimshaw tries to get to full guard but Kaplan has control of the leg. Grimshaw missing with punches from the bottom.

That's one minute gone in the round. Grimshaw blocking the ground and pound attempt from Kaplan. Kaplan lands strikes from half guard. Kaplan is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen. Grimshaw is not content to let Kaplan control the position. Grimshaw trying to get back to full guard but Kaplan takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Grimshaw is really trying hard to get back to his feet.
Grimshaw tries to hold on but Kaplan pushes him away. Jason Kaplan has got the better of the ground game so far. Kaplan trying to control but Grimshaw is having none of it. Grimshaw is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
That's three minutes gone in the round. The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Kaplan cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Grimshaw tries to reverse the position but Kaplan maintains control. Kaplan unloading with bombs! Grimshaw is wriggling around trying to escape.
Kaplan is in the full mount, landing strikes.
Grimshaw is rocked! Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Kaplan lands a big shot to the head and Grimshaw winces in pain. He's tapped out due to strikes!
