PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Igor Cavalcanti (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brian Stokes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Stokes has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cavalcanti fails with the takedown. Stokes misses with a double jab.
Cavalcanti looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Stokes is fending him off so far but Cavalcanti persists. Nope, Stokes circles away and we're back to standing. The fight stays on the outside here - Stokes looks like he's thinking about clinching though. A solid leg kick lands there for Stokes.
Stokes feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Stokes looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Cavalcanti working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Stokes doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Stokes manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Stokes postures up.
Cavalcanti has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Stokes should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Cavalcanti has tightened it up now! Stokes should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Igor Cavalcanti!
