PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Frank Gore (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ed Lesnar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lesnar has chosen Next Big Thing as his entrance music. Ed Lesnar is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Frank Gore!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Ed Lesnar!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Gore closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Lesnar breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Gore with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Lesnar to score with a decent uppercut.
Lesnar misses with a series of wild punches.
A shot to the liver by Gore. Beautiful body shot.
Lesnar bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Gore dodges the punch combination from Lesnar.

Gore is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Lesnar.

A looping hook to the body misses from Gore. Lesnar does a little dance to reset his feet.

Gore drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Lesnar can do anything to dispel that myth.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Gore accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Lesnar throws a right hand that Gore ducks under and follows up with a left that Gore also avoids with ease.
Lesnar feints a jab promting Gore to slip. Lesnar then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Gore slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Gore throws a half hearted mid kick.
Gore misses with a body kick.
Lesnar throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Ed Lesnar is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Lesnar checks a leg kick nicely.
Lesnar swinging wildly here.
Lesnar throws a right and a left that both miss.
Lesnar throws a right hand that Gore ducks under and follows up with a left that Gore also avoids with ease.
A big right from Lesnar misses.
Gore throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.

Lesnar misses with a combination
and Gore connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Gore dives in and scores a takedown into Lesnar's guard.
Gore passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Gore is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Gore fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Gore slows the pace down.
Lesnar parries the strikes from Gore easily there. Gore is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Lesnar to escape.

Lesnar wants to get back to his feet but Gore drags him back down.
Gore has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Gore tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Gore just content to control the position.
Gore in side control, throwing shots but Lesnar defends.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Gore shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Lesnar defends it nicely.
Gore takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.

Lesnar scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.

Gore drops back looking for a leg! Lesnar is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Lesnar manages to kick Gore off! Gore jumps back into Lesnar's guard.

Frank Gore overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Gore throws an elbow that misses. Lesnar uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Gore's guard. Nice move by Lesnar!
Lesnar wanted to stand there but Gore had control of the position.

Gore is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Lesnar is looking to stand up but Gore won't let him.

Gore slips under a jab.
Ed Lesnar is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Gore wants to slow Lesnar down by chopping away at his legs.
Lesnar throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Gore counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Lesnar throws a lazy right hand but Gore sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Gore shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Gore tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Lesnar manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
No joy there for Lesnar, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Gore takes a swing at Lesnar's ribcage but misses.
Gore misses the shot to the body.
Gore is looking to wear down Lesnar with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
A combination from Lesnar does no damage.

Gore shoots in and bounces Lesnar off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Lesnar keeping moving, preventing Gore from controlling successfully.
Lesnar really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Gore. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Lesnar is looking to stand up but Gore isn't so interested in that idea.
Lesnar can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Gore controls the pace.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Frank Gore.

Lesnar tries to circle away but Gore has him pinned against the cage.
Lesnar is pressed up against the cage. Gore has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Lesnar down to the mat. Lesnar avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Gore looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Gore, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
