Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Terry Umstedd (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mark Griffin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Terry Umstedd!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mark Griffin!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Daniel Franklin and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Umstedd moves into the clinch.

Griffin manages to break the clinch.

Umstedd shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Umstedd showed some decent athleticism there.
Umstedd tries to stand and escape but Griffin is controlling the position.

Griffin should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Umstedd takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Umstedd seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Griffin does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Griffin is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Umstedd pulls his head out easily.

Umstedd is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Umstedd tries to control Griffin's body but Griffin pushes him off. Umstedd squirms to his side and now Griffin has his back!

Griffin has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Umstedd has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

Umstedd is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Griffin is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Griffin has the hooks in. Umstedd is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.

Griffin is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Umstedd is defending well though. Griffin let's go of the attempt for now.
Umstedd knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Griffin on the ground.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Griffin has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Umstedd can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Griffin has eaten all the pies!

Griffin is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Griffin tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Umstedd wants to get up but he can't break Griffin's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Griffin had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Umstedd is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Griffin Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Umstedd's back instead.

Griffin has his opponent's back and is working for the choke.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

That was a close second round but I would say that Terry Umstedd will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Griffin takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Griffin is on top in guard.
Umstedd wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Griffin drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Griffin jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Griffin drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Griffin jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Umstedd bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Griffin's head backwards.

It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Umstedd here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Umstedd wants to hold on but Griffin pushes him away.
Griffin scores with a couple of good head shots there.
Griffin moves to the back position.
Griffin lands a punch to the side of the head from the back.
Umstedd tries to roll but Griffin sticks to his back.

Griffin patiently working for the choke. Which fighter will keep their nerve here?

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Terry Umstedd.
I think Umstedd has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
