The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vancan has a takedown stuffed.
A big left from Belfort misses.
Belfort stuffs the takedown attempt from Vancan. Vancan gets slowly back to his feet.
Belfort thows a body shot but no joy.
Vancan tries to score a power double leg takedown but Belfort sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Vancan somewhat.
Thiago Belfort has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Raider Vancan.
Belfort defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Vancan.
Belfort keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Vancan shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Belfort sprawls well. Belfort wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Vancan gets slowly back to his feet.

Vancan shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Belfort manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Belfort wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Vancan is now in half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Vancan has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Vancan lands a nice short elbow.
Vancan slips a nice elbow through Belfort's hands, connecting with Belfort's forehead.

Vancan takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Belfort is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Vancan scores with a couple of nice shots.

Raider Vancan decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
