Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jason Skiles! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Bryan Stoeckel! The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Luis Engracia and Seu Braga.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Stoeckel shoots in and drives through. Skiles sprawls well. Skiles circles away from the clinch attempt and Skiles counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Skiles. Skiles's corner is telling him to maintain position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Skiles decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow. Stoeckel is trying hard to land a takedown here. Skiles sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Stoeckel. Jason Skiles has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bryan Stoeckel. Stoeckel with a lazy takedown attempt and Skiles counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Skiles. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Skiles has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Stoeckel regains guard immediately. Skiles controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Skiles keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Stoeckel's head.
That's one minute gone in the round. Skiles sitting in guard, not really doing much. Stoeckel should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The ref stands the fighters back up because Jason Skiles just wasn't active enough. Skiles throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Skiles fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Stoeckel avoids it really well and circles away. Stoeckel tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Skiles swivels and escapes.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Skiles closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Stoeckel quickly recovers to half guard. Skiles looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding. Skiles has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Stoeckel defend it? Skiles steps over the head and cranks it - Stoeckel is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Skiles!
