Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jake Powell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and David Meadows (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Powell's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Blame It on the Alcohol by Of Mice & Men. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jake Powell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, David Meadows!
The judges for this bout are Shirou Masuda, Hirohito Nitta and Kenichi Hosakawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Meadows clinches with his opponent.

Powell wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Meadows has him pressed against the cage.

Meadows drops down looking for an ankle pick but Powell pulls his leg out and moves away.

Powell tries for a takedown but Meadows circles away easily

and Meadows counters with a shoot takedown. Powell fights it but they end up in guard.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Meadows accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Powell closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Meadows's guard.

Meadows is looking to stand up but Powell isn't so interested in that idea.
Powell won't allow Meadows to sweep him here.
Meadows not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Powell will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Powell shoots in for a double leg but Meadows sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Powell leaves Meadows with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Meadows is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Meadows wants to stand but Powell has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.

The fight stays on the outside here - Meadows looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Powell throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Meadows's waist but Meadows gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Powell off to one side.

Meadows closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Powell did well to prevent Meadows getting side control.
Meadows is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.

Meadows is looking for a kimura here.
Meadows prevents Powell from standing back up.

David Meadows has got the better of the ground game so far.
Meadows throws a strike but Powell avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
Meadows is pushing down on Powell's leg trying to pass to half guard. Powell is fighting to maintain full guard but Meadows has managed to sneak the leg through.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

David Meadows showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Meadows throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Meadows shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Powell as he jumps to the side.

Meadows shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Powell as he avoids it easily.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Powell.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Powell shoots in and gets a takedown into Meadows's guard.

Meadows tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Powell gets to his feet. Meadows looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Powell closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Powell lands in his opponent's guard.

Powell stands and steps away. Meadows gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Meadows closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Powell quickly recovers to half guard.

Meadows is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Powell is just riding it out for now. Meadows eventually gives up the hold.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Powell is staying active underneath Meadows, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Meadows wants to stand up but Powell is controlling the position.

Powell is looking to escape.
Powell on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Powell tries to get out of the position.
Meadows wants to free his trapped foot but Powell is holding on for dear life with his legs.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

OK we're going to have a standup here. David Meadows hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Meadows gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Meadows working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Powell doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Powell manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Powell wants to stand but Meadows is controlling his posture from full guard.

Powell has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Jake Powell has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Meadows is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
