Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Tony Blair! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Richard Lapointe! The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, Paul Tew and Colin Fotheringham.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Blair misses with a jab, cross combination.
Blair throws a series of punches but Lapointe moves out of range. Lapointe shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Blair manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up. Blair has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Lapointe can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Blair keeping moving, preventing Lapointe from controlling successfully. Lapointe advances position into side control! You can see the frustration on Blair's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Blair is looking for a sweep. Blair struggling a bit here. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's one minute gone in the round. Blair gets back to half guard. Blair tries to get to full guard but Lapointe has control of the leg. Lapointe controlling the action here.
Richard Lapointe has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet. Blair swinging wildly here.
Blair throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Blair looks to land a body kick but Lapointe moved away. Left hook, right uppercut from Blair.
It looks like Richard Lapointe has been cut.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Blair misses with a wild combination.
Blair scores with a jab to the head.
Tony Blair seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Lapointe throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Blair was covering up waiting for the punch and Lapointe finishes the takedown easily into guard. Lapointe trying to control the position from guard on top but Blair is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Blair is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Lapointe defends well. Blair keeping moving, preventing Lapointe from controlling successfully. Blair working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Lapointe doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Lapointe manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Blair manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Blair looking to isolate an arm here. Lapointe doesn't see it coming and as Blair extends the arm, he's forced to tap out! Nice submission by Blair!
