PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dave Jin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lewis Uchida (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Dave Jin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Lewis Uchida!
The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Marco Blurström and Arvi Lind.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Uchida fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Jin sprawls well initially but Uchida persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Uchida is working for a submission of some sort.
Jin knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Uchida on the ground.
Uchida looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Jin tries to roll over but Uchida keeps him under control.
Uchida seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Uchida stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.

Uchida clinches up with Jin and pushes him back against the cage.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Uchida decides to pull guard.
Uchida managing to control the position.
Uchida bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Jin's guard.
Uchida slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Uchida thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Uchida stands up from Jin's guard - Uchida perhaps looking for a knockout.
Jin looks to clinch

and Uchida moves into the clinch.

Uchida has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Jin is trying to keep an underhook but Uchida manages to get the takedown into half guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Jin is trying to control but can't.
Uchida has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Uchida lands a nice shot to the head.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Jin is breathing heavily.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Uchida is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Jin can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Lewis Uchida dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Uchida is working for a kimura but Jin is defending it quite comfortably.
Well, if Uchida is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Uchida uses his free foot to push down on Jin's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Jin.

Jin could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Jin is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Jin is trying to reverse the position but instead Uchida has taken his back - oops!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Uchida's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Uchida has the rear naked choke here! This is very bad for Jin! Can he survive? No! He's out! Uchida gets to his feet and celebrates with his cornermen. He looks absolutely delighted. In the post fight interviews he takes time to thank his parents and everyone who has believed in him from the start. How sweet.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:19 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Lewis Uchida!
