Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Franirc Balorca! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Nick Diaz! The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Roger Salmon and Ryoma Takatsuka.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Diaz misses with a wild body shot. Diaz paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button. Diaz swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Nick Diaz seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Diaz fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Balorca manages to avoid it. Diaz will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Balorca drives through with a takedown into Diaz's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position. The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace. Diaz looking for a guillotine here but Balorca defends easily.
Diaz has his foot on Balorca's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Balorca works his way back into a safe position though. Balorca working some strikes from top position. Diaz had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Balorca defends it easily. Balorca trying to control but Diaz is working from the bottom. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Balorca looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Balorca tries to free his leg and advance position but Diaz is retaining full guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Diaz is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Balorca is aware though and is defending well. Diaz has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Balorca is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Diaz. Diaz looks winded! The referee tells the fighters to keep busy. Diaz gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there! Balorca landing strikes, looking to finish! Balorca lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Diaz hang on?
It looks like Nick Diaz has been cut. Balorca landing strikes, looking to finish! Balorca has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. This has been an exciting period of action! Balorca looking to control but Diaz is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Balorca landing strikes, looking to finish! Balorca with a couple of short strikes. Balorca can't control as he wanted to and Diaz manages to get the fight back to his half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Balorca trying to mount his opponent but Diaz defends it. Diaz tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Balorca has advanced to mount. Uh oh. Balorca lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning. Balorca is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Diaz is surviving well by controlling Balorca's body position as best he can. Diaz is squirming around, avoiding Balorca's attempts to control the action. Balorca has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Diaz's face.
That has opened up Nick Diaz's cut even more. Balorca wants to control the action but instead Diaz gets a body lock and reverses into Balorca's guard! Nice work! Balorca controls Diaz momentarily but Diaz frees himself.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Balorca has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Diaz should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Balorca has tightened it up now! Diaz should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!
