PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dan Koloff (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Andres Daniel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Daniel has chosen when i ride on my enemies tupac as his entrance music. Andres Daniel told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Dan Koloff!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Andres Daniel!
The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, Jorge Garcia and Steve Montenegro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Koloff shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Daniel as he jumps to the side.
Daniel is looking to clinch.

Koloff shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Daniel trying to control here.
Daniel is trying to stand back up but Koloff is controlling him
Daniel controlling the leg, holding on to half guard.
Daniel is not content to let Koloff control the position.
Daniel is trying to get back to full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Koloff is working for a kimura but Daniel is defending it quite comfortably.

Koloff wants to stand but Daniel has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.

Koloff is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Daniel makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Daniel.
Koloff throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Daniel works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Koloff could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Koloff slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Daniel wants to stand and escape but Koloff is having none of it.

Koloff wants to pass the guard but Daniel is keeping the position.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Koloff shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Daniel sprawls well. Daniel wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Koloff gets slowly back to his feet.

Koloff shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Daniel's guard.
Koloff wants to control from the top but Daniel keeps moving.
Daniel is trying to keep Koloff in close.

Koloff thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Koloff drops back, looking for a kneebar! Daniel looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Daniel looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Daniel!

Daniel decides to stand back up.

Koloff has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Daniel uses from the top position.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Koloff seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Daniel does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Koloff goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Daniel rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Koloff's guard! Nice work there by Daniel!

Daniel stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Koloff swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Daniel looking to sit in guard and control but Koloff gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Koloff stops Daniel from standing up.

Daniel escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Koloff gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Daniel is breathing heavily.

Koloff is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Daniel looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Koloff passes into side control.
Daniel is not content to let Koloff control the position.

Daniel takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.

Koloff working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Koloff is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Daniel has escaped the position, nice work there.

Koloff is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Daniel is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Daniel tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Koloff paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Daniel tries to score a power double leg takedown but Koloff sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Daniel somewhat.

Koloff wants to free his trapped foot but Daniel is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Koloff is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Daniel sees it coming and defends easily.

Koloff is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Koloff is controlling the pace.
Koloff seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Daniel manages to get to full guard.

Koloff got a little sloppy there for a moment and Daniel has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Koloff has managed to get both his arms back between Daniel's legs - danger averted.
Daniel takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Dan Koloff.

Daniel must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Koloff throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Koloff is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Andres Daniel has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Koloff had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Daniel defends it easily.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Koloff, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
