PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Ballard Magnar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rajja Khan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Khan is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by tubular bells. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Ballard Magnar!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 18 - 6 - 2, fighting out of London, Rajja Khan!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Dillan Fox and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Magnar blocks a jab.
Khan gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Khan swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Magnar walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
A telegraphed right hand from Khan misses the target.

Khan gets the takedown into side control.
Sloppy strikes there by Khan.
Khan lands an elbow.
Khan content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
Magnar tries to improve position but can't.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Khan misses with an attempted head punch from side control.

Khan creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Magnar sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Magnar tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Magnar dodges the ground and pound from Khan.

Khan misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

Khan wants to stand but Magnar has his arm trapped.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Khan connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Magnar some visible discomfort.
Khan creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Magnar sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Khan is looking to take a break and control but Magnar is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Rajja Khan dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Khan tries to clinch but Magnar moves out of range.
Magnar needs to keep his hands up - Khan had a free shot at his head there.
Magnar looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Magnar throws out a loose jab but Khan uses good head movement to avoid it.
Khan lands a jab-cross combination.
Ballard Magnar is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Khan throws a half hearted mid kick.
Khan bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Magnar's head backwards.
Magnar fails to land with a series of punches.
Khan tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Magnar swivels and escapes.

Khan misses with a head kick.
Nice takedown defense from Magnar. No joy for Khan on that attempt.
Khan thows a body shot but no joy.
Khan lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Magnar circles away quickly and effectively.
Khan misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Magnar moves away from the strike by Khan.
Khan ducks under a wild hook from Magnar.
Magnar scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Khan tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Khan throws a body kick that misses.
Magnar scores with a crisp jab that stopped Khan in his tracks.

Khan throws a lazy uppercut
and Magnar counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Khan scores with a kick to the body.
Magnar jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.
Magnar misses with a double jab
and Khan counters with a lovely straight right hand!

Khan has managed to clinch.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Khan lands an uppercut.
Magnar is looking to break free of the clinch but Khan has double underhooks.
Magnar lands with a left to the head.
A nice right hand lands inside from Magnar.
Magnar wants to break the clinch but can't.
Magnar lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.
Magnar softening up his opponent with strikes, against the cage.
Magnar tries to throw a body punch but Khan avoids it by throwing Magnar back against the cage.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Khan gets a trip takedown into half guard.
Khan wants to take a breather but Magnar is having none of it.
Khan is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Khan has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Khan content to control rather than advance.
Rajja Khan has got the better of the ground game so far.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Khan is looking to advance position but Magnar won't allow it.

Khan stalling away here and it's allowed Magnar to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Magnar is trying to keep Khan in close.
Khan is looking to work some ground and pound but Magnar has wrist control.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Rajja Khan showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


A head kick from Khan lands but Magnar takes it in his stride.

Khan has Magnar pressed against the cage, preventing Magnar from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Still in the clinch, Khan scores with a nice short uppercut.
A quick uppercut on the inside from Khan.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Magnar misses with a hook to the ribs.

Khan jumps into guard, dragging Magnar to the mat.
Khan looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Khan working for a triangle but Magnar defends it easily.
Magnar wants to control from the top but Khan keeps moving.

Khan is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a triangle but Magnar frees his head nicely. Oh but Khan has switched to an armbar! Magnar is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
