PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Shaakir Asa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Miles Webb (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Webb has chosen Empire State of Mind by Jay-Z & Alicia Keys as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Shaakir Asa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Miles Webb!
The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, John Kavanagh and Anthony Taglia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Webb fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Asa bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Asa in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
Asa could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Asa wants to stand but Webb is controlling his arm.
Asa slows the pace down.
Webb tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Asa wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Asa trying to control the action but Webb is working from the bottom.
You can see the frustration on Webb's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Asa creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Webb sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
The ground and pound from Asa seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Asa tries to stand but Webb is controlling his head.
A lull in the action here as Asa stalls from top position.

Asa lands with a punch from half guard.
Asa wants to stand but Webb has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
Asa is looking to advance position but Webb won't allow it.
Asa is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Webb can't escape the position.
Webb bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Webb won't allow Asa to sweep him here.
Webb throws a big elbow that misses.
Webb trying to control the position from guard on top but Asa is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Webb accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Webb is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Asa is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Webb postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Webb wants to pass the guard but Asa is keeping the position.

Webb loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Asa has his hands on Webb's head, controlling the position.
Asa avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Webb distracts Asa with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
This has been an exciting period of action!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Shaakir Asa will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Webb tries to clinch

and Asa counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

Webb is pressing down on Asa's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Webb can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Asa controls the pace.

Webb is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Webb is looking to take a break and control but Asa is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Asa tries to get to full guard but Webb has control of the leg.
Webb looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Asa with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Webb takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Asa has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Webb is working away from the top position though.
Shaakir Asa overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Asa is controlling Webb's trapped leg to prevent Webb from advancing to side control.

Webb is trying to control. Asa wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Webb wants to take a breather but Asa is having none of it.
Asa is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Asa knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Webb on the ground.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Horrible takedown by Webb or perhaps it was just good defense by Asa which made him look bad.
Webb connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Shaakir Asa is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Asa just misses with a punch to the body.
Asa stuffs the takedown.
Asa keeps the fight on the outside.

Webb swats away the attempt to clinch by Asa.
Asa defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Webb.
Shaakir Asa has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Miles Webb.
Asa fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Asa tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Webb keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Asa's head.

Asa utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Asa holds on and takes a little breather.
Webb slips nicely into half guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Asa is staying active underneath Webb, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Webb might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Asa haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Miles Webb showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. And we move into the final round!



Webb lands a jab followed by a vicious hook that sends Asa sprawling to the canvas. Webb follows him down, looking for the kill. Can Asa hang on?


It looks like Shaakir Asa has been cut.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Asa moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Asa is rocked!
Webb lands a big left to the face of Asa, bouncing his head like a basketball. Another shot from Webb and another - Asa is out! Webb stands up and salutes his fans, who are going crazy in the stands.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:40 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Miles Webb!
A very excited looking Miles Webb made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
