PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Johnatan Ferraz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sam Supranovich (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Supranovich comes into a darkened arena with his song building. The Court of the Crimson King kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Johnatan Ferraz has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Johnatan Ferraz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Sam Supranovich!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Timothy Bukovac and .




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No joy there for Ferraz, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Supranovich looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Supranovich fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Ferraz avoids it really well and circles away.
Ferraz blocks a head kick by Supranovich.

Ferraz shoots in and gets a takedown into Supranovich's guard.
Ferraz stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Supranovich swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Ferraz sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Supranovich really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Ferraz. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Ferraz seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Supranovich for as long as he can get away with.
Supranovich keeping moving, preventing Ferraz from controlling successfully.

Johnatan Ferraz has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

Ferraz forces Supranovich back against the cage and clinches.

Ferraz jumps guard and drags Supranovich to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Ferraz pushes Supranovich off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Ferraz shoots in and gets a takedown into Supranovich's guard.
Ferraz trying to control the position from guard on top but Supranovich is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Ferraz gets to his feet - Supranovich follows without any prompting.

Oooooh!!! Ferraz has knocked Supranovich down with a huge combo! Ferraz steps away and waves a wobbly Supranovich back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!


Supranovich is rocked!


It looks like Sam Supranovich has been cut.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Ferraz throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Supranovich was covering up waiting for the punch and Ferraz finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Supranovich is still in real trouble! Can Ferraz finish him?
Ferraz controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Ferraz gets to his feet. Supranovich looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Ferraz decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Supranovich, up you get!

Ferraz feints and as Supranovich raises his hands in defense, Ferraz changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

and Ferraz counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Ferraz has hold of one of Supranovich's legs. Supranovich is fighting the takedown attempt but Ferraz gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

Supranovich seems to have recovered his senses.

Ferraz postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Supranovich is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Ferraz, into his guard.

Ferraz has an active guard here but Supranovich has managed to pass into half guard.
Supranovich passes into side control, despite Ferraz's attempt to control the position.
Ferraz tries to improve position but can't.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Supranovich working away.
Ferraz defending against the ground and pound.
Ferraz gets back to half guard.
Ferraz works his way to full guard. Good work.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Ferraz working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Supranovich doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Supranovich manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Supranovich wants to pass the guard but Ferraz is keeping the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Ferraz looking for a triangle here. Supranovich is fighting it but it looks tight! Ferraz pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, Supranovich is tapping out - this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Johnatan Ferraz!
