PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Dat Sik (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Firus Williams (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Williams has chosen Fuel-Hemorrhage as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 2 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 13 - 4, fighting out of Amsterdam, Dat Sik!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 19 - 15 - 0, fighting out of London, Firus Williams!
The judges for this bout are Tarja Halkonen, Anni Minnemäki and Marco Blurström.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sik swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Williams counters with a takedown into side control.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Sik tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Williams wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Sik defending against the ground and pound.
Williams cracks Sik with a big right hand but Sik just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Williams working the head with strikes.
Williams tries to advance to mount but can't.
Williams tries to advance to mount but Sik instead regains half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Williams trying to control the action but Sik is working from the bottom.
Williams has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Williams not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Williams wants to take a breather but Sik is having none of it.
Sik keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Williams thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Sik's head.
Sik has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Williams is working away from the top position though.
Sik gets full guard.
Williams slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Sik on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
Williams wants to control but Sik is keeping him busy.
Williams is working Sik over with some ground and pound from side control.
Sik manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Sik is looking to take a break and control but Williams is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Williams is doing well to control the position and prevent Sik from advancing to side control.
Sik not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Sik is pressing down on Williams's thigh, looking to free his foot. Williams is holding on for now.
Williams is concentrating on defense, preventing Sik from advancing position.
Williams is not content to let Sik control the position.

We're going to have a standup here because Dat Sik wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Sik checks a leg kick nicely.
Williams displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Sik throws out the jab.
Sik is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Williams.
Dat Sik seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Sik defending well as Williams loads up on a big left hand.

and Williams counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Sik!
Sik is trying to control Williams's posture but Williams avoids it.
Sik tries to buck Williams off but Williams is having none of it.
Sik can't do much from the bottom here.

Williams is trying to ground and pound but Sik uses the momentary lack of control by Williams to regain half guard.
Williams winds up and cracks Sik with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Williams is thwarting Sik's attempts to control the position.
Williams thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Sik's head.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Williams trying to control the action but Sik is working from the bottom.
Williams trying to mount his opponent but Sik defends it.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Sik has his hands clasped together around Williams's back. He's all about the action.
Sik tries to roll over but Williams keeps him under control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Firus Williams dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Sik pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Dat Sik has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Williams misses with a two punch combination.
Sik throws a sloppy head kick

and Williams counters with a shoot takedown. Sik fights it but they end up in guard.
Sik is trying to control the position but Williams postures up.
Firus Williams has got the better of the ground game so far.
Williams chips away with some ground and pound.
Williams throwing strikes but missing.
Sik wants to sweep here but Williams controlling him for the moment.
Williams stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Sik swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Williams is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Williams pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Sik is keeping the position for now.
Williams loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Sik wants to hit a switch here but Williams passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Sik there!
Sik is looking to get to half guard.
Sik tries to lock up and control but Williams gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Williams landing strikes from the mount and Sik is in trouble!

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Sik bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
Williams looking for a sweep. Not yet Williams, not yet.
Sik wants to control from the top but Williams keeps moving.
Williams wants to sweep here but Sik controlling him for the moment.

Sik postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Williams manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Sik manages to get himself to full guard.

Sik controls Williams momentarily but Williams frees himself.
Williams throwing strikes but missing.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Williams accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Sik not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Williams throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Sik lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Williams!
Sik trying to control but Williams is having none of it.
Firus Williams is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Sik thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Sik throwing strikes here but Williams is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.

And that's the end of the fight!
Firus Williams comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Williams has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Firus Williams decided to hype himself up post fight. It was going well but he went on about it a bit too long and the crowd turned on him a little.
