Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Shontavius Smith! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Giant Giant! The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, and Timothy Bukovac.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Smith slips a jab from Giant. Smith ducks under a wild hook from Giant. Smith on the wrong end of a nice jab. Good standup being displayed there by Giant as he connects with a hook. Giant throws a right hand that Smith ducks under and follows up with a left that Smith also avoids with ease. Giant checks a leg kick nicely. Giant blocks a leg kick. Giant Giant seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Smith takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it. This has been an exciting period of action! Giant looks to land a right hand but Smith moved out of range. Giant lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Giant throws a one two combo.
Smith is rocked! Nice takedown defense from Giant. No joy for Smith on that attempt. Giant throws a right hand that Smith ducks under and follows up with a left that Smith also avoids with ease. Smith closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Still in half guard, Smith seems content to control. Giant is in trouble now - Smith has advanced to mount! Smith lands a big shot there that rocks Giant but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
That's one minute gone in the round. Smith dominating with strikes here. Smith content just to control the position here. Giant really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Smith. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Smith lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Smith cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Giant is wriggling around trying to escape.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Giant can do anything to dispel that myth. Smith raining down hammerfists from mount. Giant is in all sorts of trouble here.
Giant is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Smith lands a nice shot to the head.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Smith is landing with some decent strikes but Giant is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Giant is rocked! Smith has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Smith unloads with some vicious shots from mount and Giant wants out - he looks towards the referee who steps in to save him! Smith celebrates on the cage and the crowd goes wild!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:28 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Shontavius Smith! After winning the bout, Shontavius Smith thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
