PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Hector Alves (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mic Krilla (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Krilla's choice of entrance music: A Tribe Called Quest - Buggin' Out. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 11 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Hector Alves!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Mic Krilla!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Chris Downing and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Alves tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Krilla swivels and escapes.
Alves doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Krilla counters with a good low kick that Alves was not able to check.
Alves uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Krilla.
Krilla attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.
Alves fails with the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Hector Alves. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Krilla is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.

Alves shoots in and bounces Krilla off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Alves throws a strike but Krilla rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Alves looking for a guillotine here but Krilla defends easily.
Alves is trying to control the position but Krilla postures up.

Krilla would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Krilla gets to his feet. Alves looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Alves lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Krilla at a distance.
Alves with a poor takedown
and Krilla counters with a nice low kick that buckles Alves's knee momentarily.

Alves closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Krilla quickly recovers to half guard.
Alves seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Krilla does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Alves wants to pass the guard but Krilla is defending well.
Alves with the ground and pound but Krilla uses the opportunity to regain guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Alves accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Krilla tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Alves postures up.
Alves trying to control the position from guard on top but Krilla is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Krilla avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Alves chips away with some ground and pound.
Krilla keeping moving, preventing Alves from controlling successfully.
Alves is working Krilla over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Krilla utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Alves lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Alves trying to control but Krilla is working from the bottom.
Krilla controls Alves momentarily but Alves frees himself.
Krilla tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Alves is looking to work some ground and pound but Krilla has wrist control.
Krilla looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Alves with a flurry of punches that miss.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Alves working some strikes from top position.
Alves slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Krilla has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Alves works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Krilla avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Alves.
The fighters are battling for position here. Krilla manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Alves trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Alves keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Krilla's head.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Krilla keeping full guard, as Alves tries to pass.
Alves is looking to work some ground and pound but Krilla has wrist control.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Alves looking to pass the guard.
Alves trying to control but Krilla is working from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Hector Alves dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Krilla misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Krilla misses with a left hand
enabling Alves to counter with a crisp jab.
Krilla with a hook.
Alves with a poor takedown
and Krilla connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Alves looks for a takedown but Krilla sprawls well.
Krilla throws a head kick but Alves moves out of range.
Alves fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Hector Alves. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Alves shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Krilla as he jumps to the side.
Alves shoots in but no luck this time.
A swing and a miss from Krilla.
Alves throws a leg kick but Krilla sees it coming and moves out of range.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Krilla enables Alves to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Krilla manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Alves trying to control but Krilla is working from the bottom.
Alves trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Krilla utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Alves pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Krilla is keeping the position for now.
Krilla is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Alves is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Krilla is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Krilla has escaped and now he's on top!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Alves is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Krilla is aware though and is defending well.

Krilla stands and steps away. Alves gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Alves with a lazy takedown attempt
and Krilla counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Alves is lucky that one didn't land flush.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Alves shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Krilla defends it nicely.
Alves misses with a takedown attempt - Krilla sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Alves shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Alves was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Krilla is looking to regain half guard here but Alves keeps moving and retains side control.

Alves has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Krilla is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Alves yanks on the arm and Krilla is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Alves.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:51 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Hector Alves!
An out of breath Hector Alves thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
