Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Carl Mason! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Blake Nyman! The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Skip Squint and John Mangel.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nyman lands a slapping body shot.
Mason closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Nyman on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Mason misses with an elbow strike.
Mason tries to work over Nyman's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target. Nyman wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Mason gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Nyman regains guard.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup. Mason throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Nyman works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Nyman avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Nyman has momentary wrist control but Mason slips an elbow through the middle. Mason not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Nyman can do anything to dispel that myth. Mason stands up and waves to Nyman to follow him. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Horrible takedown by Nyman or perhaps it was just good defense by Mason which made him look bad.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mason on the wrong end of a nice hook. Nyman throws the left hand but Mason avoids the punch easily. Nyman ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Mason moves away. Nyman throws out a powerful jab. Mason shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Nyman as he jumps to the side. Mason clinches with his opponent.

Mason's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not. Mason breaks from the clinch.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Nyman cracks Mason with a right hand to the side of the head. Mason has managed to clinch.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Mason moves forwards but Nyman connects with a nice, crisp jab. Nyman lands with a hook. Mason tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head. Nyman waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Mason. Mason changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Nyman looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Mason has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Mason throws a strike aimed at the side of Nyman's head but Nyman avoids it well. Mason trying to control the action but Nyman is working from the bottom. Mason lands a few punches from side control. Sloppy strikes there by Mason. Mason misses with the ground and pound. Nyman takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Mason thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Mason tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Mason in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Mason throws a strike aimed at the side of Nyman's head but Nyman avoids it well. Mason wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Nyman, who protects the arm well. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Mason in side control, working for a kimura. He's got hold of an arm and he's torquing it... Nyman is tapping! That's the end of the fight!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Carl Mason! Carl Mason decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
