The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Miller misses with a series of wild punches.
De La Cruz takes a shot to the body in his stride.
The fight stays on the outside here - Miller looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Miller misses with a takedown and De La Cruz connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Miller tries to score a power double leg takedown but De La Cruz sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Miller somewhat. Miller shoots in looking for a takedown. De La Cruz tries to sprawl out of it but Miller keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. De La Cruz manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Damian De La Cruz has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Joe Miller.
That's one minute gone in the round. Miller tries to clinch but fails miserably and De La Cruz counters with a body kick that stops Miller in his tracks momentarily. De La Cruz really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Miller shoots in for a double leg but De La Cruz sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Miller wants to clinch up but De La Cruz keeps it at a distance. Miller tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Miller tries to score a power double leg takedown but De La Cruz sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Miller somewhat. Miller closes the distance and clinches.
That's two minutes gone in the round. De La Cruz is trying to push Miller away but Miller has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere. De La Cruz blocks an elbow strike. A frustrated look appears on Miller's face as he tries to break the clinch. De La Cruz keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Miller's efforts to push away. Miller is trying to break free. Miller breaks from the clinch.
Miller tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but De La Cruz paws at him with a jab and circles away. Miller has a takedown stuffed. De La Cruz keeps the fight on the outside. Miller throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Miller closes the distance but De La Cruz moves to the side and De La Cruz counters with a three punch combo that has Miller backing up. Miller nods at De La Cruz to acknowledge the strikes. De La Cruz is breathing heavily. Miller tries to clinch up. De La Cruz avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Miller shoots in but De La Cruz avoids the takedown attempt easily. A low kick from Miller is predictable there and De La Cruz counters with a head kick. Miller tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but De La Cruz paws at him with a jab and circles away. Miller fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Miller shoots for a double leg takedown but De La Cruz sprawls well. He's pushed Miller's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Miller lands a brutal head kick. De La Cruz looks out on his feet and Miller throws more strikes until the ref is forced to stop the fight!
