No joy there for Melendez, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

It looks like Gilbert Melendez has been cut.
Melendez throws a series of punches but Pol moves out of range.
Melendez lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Pol circles away quickly and effectively.
Melendez fails to land with a series of punches.
Pol tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Melendez is able to avoid easily.
A left and a right from Melendez both land. Nice combination.
Melendez swings for the body but Pol moves out of range.
Melendez swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Pol throws a low kick but it's checked well by Melendez.
Melendez scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Pol lands a big head kick that sends Melendez tumbling to the mat! Pol takes a step backwards and waves Melendez back to his feet - he wants the finish!
Melendez is rocked!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Melendez wants to stay close but Pol steps back to make room for something. Melendez seems frozen to the spot and bam! huge swing of the leg from Pol and Melendez drops like he has been shot! A huge head kick and it's all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Head Kick). Van Pol!
