Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Dag Luther! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Benny Paul! The judges for this bout are George Francis, Frank Dennis and Wesley Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Paul shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Paul trying to control from half guard but Luther is working away. Luther tries to roll over but Paul keeps him under control. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Luther is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Paul's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Paul's back! Luther tries to get the hooks in deep but Paul pushed the leg off. Paul manages to reverse the position and now he's in Luther's guard. Nice work there by Paul.

Luther looking for a sweep. Not yet Luther, not yet. Luther escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Paul gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Paul is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
That's one minute gone in the round. Luther has his hands on Paul's head, controlling the position. Paul avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Luther is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Luther is trying to control the position but Paul postures up. Paul won't allow Luther to sweep him here. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Paul throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Paul would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard. Paul trying to control the position from guard on top but Luther is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Paul has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Luther is proving hard to escape from. Paul postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Paul must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Luther gets caught flat footed, as Paul shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Paul passes into half guard. Luther is breathing heavily. Paul wants to free his trapped foot but Luther is holding on for dear life with his legs. Paul sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Luther defending well though. Paul trying to mount his opponent but Luther defends it. Paul is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Luther looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Paul shoots for a takedown but Luther saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Luther misses with a takedown attempt and Paul counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Paul throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Luther works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Luther is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Paul is looking to improve his position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Paul misses with some strikes from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Paul is refusing to be controlled, as Luther sits in half guard. Paul flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.

Paul works his way to full guard. Good work. Luther tries to free his leg and advance position but Paul is retaining full guard.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Paul closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Paul lands in his opponent's guard. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Luther is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Luther preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Paul throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Paul throws out a loose jab but Luther uses good head movement to avoid it. Luther shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away. Luther moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Paul has worked his arm free - good work by Paul!
Luther tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Luther has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Paul gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard. Paul is trying to get back to full guard. Luther trying to control the action but Paul is working from the bottom.
That's one minute gone in the round. Paul is looking to improve his position.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Luther is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Paul doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Luther. Luther passes to side control. Paul is looking for a sweep. Paul is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Luther asserts his dominance and retains side control. Paul throws a couple of punches but he's in a bad position and they don't land.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Paul fails with the takedown and Paul takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Paul with a lazy takedown attempt and Luther counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. Paul is defending against the submission attempts here by Luther.
Paul is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Luther pulls his head out easily. Paul is looking to control Luther's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Paul avoid being mounted? Paul is not content to let Luther control the position. Paul actively working from the bottom here. Luther is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Paul!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Luther can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Paul is looking to escape. Paul bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done! Luther is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
