Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jon Lam! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Ronald Zubar! The judges for this bout are James Atkins, Richard Clark and Daniel Bishop.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Lam looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Lam fails in his attempt to clinch. Zubar throws a head kick that misses. Lam fails to land the takedown. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Lam is defended easily by Zubar. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jon Lam. That's going to take a lot out of him. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Lam is defended easily by Zubar. Lam closes the distance and clinches up with Zubar, looking for a takedown. Lam pushes Zubar against the cage but Zubar circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Lam shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Zubar sprawls well. Zubar wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Lam gets slowly back to his feet. Lam shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Zubar sprawls well. That's one minute gone in the round. Horrible takedown by Lam or perhaps it was just good defense by Zubar which made him look bad. Lam tries for a takedown but Zubar circles away easily and Zubar counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Zubar rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Lam counters by moving into the clinch. Zubar wants to break free but Lam has control.
Lam gets control of Zubar's arms and successfully pulls guard. Lam will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back. The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup. Lam looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Lam working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Zubar doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Zubar manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Zubar trying to stand up but can't free himself from Lam's guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Lam is trying to keep Zubar in close.
Zubar avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Zubar wants to stand but Lam has a closed guard, so he can't escape. Lam is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Lam has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Zubar should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Lam has tightened it up now! Zubar should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!
