PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Trent Chapel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Avon Barksdale (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Avon Barksdale!
The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Columbo Gatti and Reed Andrews.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Chapel throws a sloppy head kick and Barksdale moves out of range easily.
Chapel tries to work over Barksdale's front leg with a kick but Barksdale checks it.
A head kick misses from Chapel.
Barksdale avoids the head kick by Chapel.
Chapel misses with a body kick.
Chapel throws a hook but Barksdale avoids it easily.
Chapel misses with a looping left.
Horrible takedown by Chapel or perhaps it was just good defense by Barksdale which made him look bad.
Chapel throws a sloppy head kick and Barksdale moves out of range easily.
Chapel misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Barksdale doesn't manage to clinch there - Chapel circles away.

Chapel looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Barksdale is in all sorts of trouble here.

Chapel moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Barksdale has worked his arm free - good work by Barksdale!
Barksdale parries the strikes from Chapel easily there. Chapel is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Barksdale to escape.

Chapel working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Chapel is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Barksdale has escaped the position, nice work there.
Chapel is breathing heavily.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Chapel tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
Barksdale tries to bench press Chapel off him but Chapel keeps the position.
Barksdale pushes Chapel away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Chapel gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Chapel goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Barksdale has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Chapel but great work by Barksdale.
Chapel gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Chapel has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Chapel throws a shot from downtown. Barksdale moves away and avoids it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Trent Chapel dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Chapel throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
No luck for Chapel with that takedown attempt.
Barksdale fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Chapel tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Chapel shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Barksdale but Barksdale pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Chapel misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Trent Chapel seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Chapel throws a head kick that misses.
Barksdale tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Barksdale throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Chapel pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Barksdale lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Chapel backs up against the cage.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Barksdale drops Chapel with a left right combo! Barksdale follows him down to the ground into side control.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Chapel tries to strike but it doesn't land.

Chapel is looking for a sweep.
Barksdale wants to control but Chapel is keeping him busy.
Chapel tries to buck Barksdale off but Barksdale is having none of it.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Barksdale blocks a head kick by Chapel.
Chapel throws a sloppy head kick and Barksdale moves out of range easily.

Barksdale feints and as Chapel raises his hands in defense, Barksdale changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Chapel looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Chapel is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Barksdale passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Barksdale working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.

Barksdale misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Chapel tries to improve position but can't.
Barksdale scores with a couple of short elbows.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Chapel regains half guard.
Chapel gets back to full guard.
Barksdale would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Barksdale is looking to stand up but Chapel won't let him.
Barksdale really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Chapel. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Chapel has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Barksdale can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Chapel is looking to sinch up a triangle. Barksdale throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Chapel's body to avoid the submission. Chapel has instead reached around Barksdale's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Chapel arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:32 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Trent Chapel!
