PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Sid Thunder (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lance McBruce (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Sid Thunder!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Lance McBruce!
The judges for this bout are Seu Braga, Matheus Silva and Edson Gomes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Thunder throws a head kick but McBruce moves out of range.
McBruce looks to score with a jab to the body but Thunder is just out of range.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Thunder loads up on a big right hand but McBruce slips the punch.
Thunder lets loose with a powerful body kick. McBruce will feel that in the morning.
Danga de danga de dang - Thunder scores with a four punch combination!


McBruce is rocked!
Thunder throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around McBruce's waist but McBruce gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Thunder off to one side.
McBruce is still on wobbly legs! Can Thunder finish him?
Thunder pulls out of a head kick attempt.
McBruce misses with a body shot.
McBruce misses with a head kick.
McBruce throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
McBruce seems to have recovered his senses.
McBruce lands a nice shot that snaps Thunder's head back.
Thunder throws a hook but McBruce blocks it.
McBruce avoids the head kick by Thunder.
Thunder uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by McBruce.
McBruce throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Thunder throws a head kick but McBruce moves out of range.

Thunder shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
McBruce is looking to improve his position but Thunder isn't that keen on the idea.

Thunder looking to secure an arm triangle but McBruce defends it well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Thunder throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.

McBruce tries to lock up and control but Thunder gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
The referee warns McBruce that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

Thunder is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, McBruce has managed to escape the submission attempt.
McBruce tries to get back to half guard but can't.
McBruce bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Thunder looking for a guillotine here but McBruce defends easily.
Thunder is breathing heavily.
McBruce wants to pass the guard but Thunder is keeping the position.

Thunder preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
McBruce postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Thunder is looking for a triangle but McBruce pushes his legs off easily.
McBruce tries to free his leg and advance position but Thunder is retaining full guard.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
McBruce lands a nice shot to the body.
McBruce avoids the head kick by Thunder.
The fight stays on the outside here - McBruce looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
McBruce throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
McBruce keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.

McBruce throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Nice takedown defense from Thunder. No joy for McBruce on that attempt.

McBruce changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Thunder looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Thunder is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Thunder is working hard here to advance position.
Thunder regains half guard.
McBruce scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Thunder is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
McBruce throwing shots but Thunder is blocking nicely.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
A slapping leg kick lands for McBruce.

McBruce feints and as Thunder raises his hands in defense, McBruce changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Thunder working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. McBruce doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. McBruce manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

McBruce wants to control from the top but Thunder keeps moving.
McBruce throwing strikes but missing.
Thunder can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as McBruce controls the pace.
Thunder wants to sweep but no luck.

McBruce trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Nice body punch from Thunder.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Thunder swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
McBruce feints and then cracks Thunder's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Thunder down.
Thunder pulls out of a head kick attempt.
McBruce paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Thunder throws a series of strikes that have McBruce backpedaling.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sid Thunder dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



McBruce shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Thunder's guard.

Thunder is looking for a triangle but McBruce pushes his legs off easily.
McBruce content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
McBruce trying to control the position from guard on top but Thunder is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Thunder working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. McBruce doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. McBruce manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

McBruce wants to control but Thunder is keeping him busy.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Thunder is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

McBruce ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
McBruce looks for a takedown but Thunder sprawls well.
McBruce fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.

McBruce gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Thunder has a couple of punches blocked by McBruce.

McBruce is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Thunder can't fight it off and eventually McBruce manages to take the fight to the floor. Thunder looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Thunder manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

McBruce works his foot free and advances to mount.

McBruce looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Thunder can't escape the position.

McBruce throws some shoulder strikes here and then postures up. Oh, he's gone for an armbar! Thunder has his hands clasped together but McBruce breaks the hold and Thunder is forced to tap! This one is aaaaaaaaaaall over! That was lightning fast by McBruce!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:03 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Lance McBruce!
