PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Dennis Mitchell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Douglas Piven (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mitchell comes to the cage accompanied by Intro Song. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Dennis Mitchell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Douglas Piven!
The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, Chris Edwards and Andrew Berry.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Piven shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Piven controlling from mount.
Poor strikes thrown by Piven there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
Piven manages to capitalize on a mistake by Mitchell to take his back!
Mitchell turns into Piven and is now in his guard.
Piven is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Mitchell is controlling him.

Mitchell drops back, looking for a kneebar! Piven looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Piven looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Piven!
Mitchell seems a little lost for a moment, as Piven dominates the positioning.

Piven decides to stand up, so the ref orders Mitchell to his feet.
Mitchell misses with a takedown

and Piven counters with a nice double leg into side control. Mitchell won't be happy with that.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Mitchell is looking for a sweep.
The strikes coming from Piven are missing the target in this wave of attacks.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Piven tries to score with some ground and pound. Mitchell controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Mitchell is trying to control Piven's posture but Piven avoids it.
Piven wants to stand but Mitchell has his arm trapped.
Mitchell misses with an elbow from the bottom.
Mitchell tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Piven wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
An elbow from Piven crashes against the mat.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Piven tries to clinch but Mitchell moves out of range.

Piven clinches up with Mitchell and pushes him back against the cage.
Piven changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Mitchell fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Piven doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Mitchell counters with a single leg into guard. Piven didn't expect that.
Piven looks gassed!
Mitchell stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Piven swivels though and keeps the full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Piven is trying to control the position but Mitchell postures up.
Mitchell sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Piven's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Mitchell is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Piven is just riding it out for now. Mitchell eventually gives up the hold.
Mitchell is thwarting Piven's attempts to control the position.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Piven can do anything to dispel that myth.

Mitchell in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Piven tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Mitchell!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:02 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Dennis Mitchell!
