Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Tony Rovigatti! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Gilberto Alves! The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Winston Howard and John Mangel.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Alves takes a kick to the body and keeps moving. Alves looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight! Rovigatti instigates a clinch. Rovigatti unloads a knee to the mid-section. Rovigatti drags the fight down to the ground.
Rovigatti manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Alves manages to get himself to full guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Rovigatti stands and steps away. Alves gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game. Rovigatti moves into the clinch. Rovigatti utilising his Muay Thai to score with a knee to the body. Alves should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete. Kneeeeees! The crowd are calling for knees to the body. Rovigatti obliges. Rovigatti landing knees to the head.
Rovigatti's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not. Knees to the body from Rovigatti.
Rovigatti has clasped his hands together around Alves's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done. Alves is not content to let Rovigatti control the position. Rovigatti decides to stand back up.
That's one minute gone in the round. Rovigatti throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Alves. Wow, both these guys are really going for it! Rovigatti tries to clinch there but Alves circles away.
Rovigatti tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Alves manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Alves avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Rovigatti closes the distance and clinches. Rovigatti crunches a lovely knee into Alves's ribcage. Rovigatti decides to pull guard. Rovigatti has his feet on Alves's thighs here. He's pushed Alves off and worked for a very quick armbar from the bottom! He's flipped onto his stomach and he's cranking hard on the arm! Alves screams in pain and taps out! This one is all over!
