PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Tatsuya Aoki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Timmy O Sullivan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). O Sullivan has chosen DropKick Murphys - Loyal to no one as his entrance music. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Timmy O Sullivan was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 11 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Tatsuya Aoki!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Timmy O Sullivan!
The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Skip Squint and Damien Edna.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A telegraphed right hand from O Sullivan misses the target.
No joy there for Aoki, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
O Sullivan moves out of range as Aoki strikes.
Nice defenses there by Aoki.
O Sullivan has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.


It looks like Timmy O Sullivan has been cut.
Aoki ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
O Sullivan throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
O Sullivan connects with the punch.

O Sullivan gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Aoki to score an easy takedown into full guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
O Sullivan keeping full guard, as Aoki tries to pass.
Aoki won't allow O Sullivan to sweep him here.
Aoki trying to control but O Sullivan is working from the bottom.
Aoki tries to free his leg and advance position but O Sullivan is retaining full guard.

Aoki's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Aoki stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. O Sullivan swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Tatsuya Aoki just wasn't active enough.
O Sullivan connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
O Sullivan takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Aoki changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. O Sullivan tries to avoid it but Aoki manages to keep hold of a leg and drag O Sullivan to the ground. O Sullivan escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Aoki lands a lovely overhand right.
Aoki bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Aoki throws an overhand right that lands on O Sullivan's shoulder, as O Sullivan tries to avoid the shot.
Aoki tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but O Sullivan was well out of range. Poor timing from Aoki.
Aoki swings for the body but O Sullivan moves out of range.
Aoki swings and misses with a hook to the body.
A bone on bone clash there as Aoki blocks the leg kick.

Aoki looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Aoki pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. O Sullivan is keeping the position for now.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now O Sullivan is on top in guard.

Aoki is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and O Sullivan defends well.

O Sullivan decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Aoki has a takedown stuffed.
Aoki misses with an uppercut. O Sullivan saw that one coming.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Aoki shoots in and drives through. O Sullivan sprawls well.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tatsuya Aoki. That's going to take a lot out of him.
O Sullivan connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Aoki's hands.
Aoki fakes high and swings low for a body shot but O Sullivan manages to avoid it.
A left lands for Aoki.
Aoki misses with a looping left.
O Sullivan swings and misses with a hook to the body.
O Sullivan throws a lazy right hand but Aoki sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
O Sullivan lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Aoki misses with an uppercut. O Sullivan saw that one coming.

Aoki closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. O Sullivan quickly recovers to half guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Aoki wants to take a breather but O Sullivan is having none of it.
O Sullivan is looking for a sweep. Aoki is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Aoki is trying to control. O Sullivan wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
O Sullivan is looking for a sweep. Aoki is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Aoki tries to pass the half guard into mount. O Sullivan knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
O Sullivan is trying to get back to full guard.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Aoki is thwarting O Sullivan's attempts to control the position.
O Sullivan is pressing down on Aoki's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
O Sullivan controlling Aoki's posture.

Aoki drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and O Sullivan dives on top into guard.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Aoki tries to land a sweep but no joy.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tatsuya Aoki dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Timmy O Sullivan's cut.
That's time! Back to the action!


O Sullivan scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
Tatsuya Aoki is winning the standup battle so far.
O Sullivan paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Aoki staying out of range there.
Aoki ducks right into an uppercut from O Sullivan.
O Sullivan throws a wild body kick that Aoki sees coming a mile off.
Aoki closes this distance looking for a takedown but O Sullivan circles away.
O Sullivan works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.

Aoki feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Aoki loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Aoki postures up.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
O Sullivan bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Aoki's guard.

Aoki escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. O Sullivan gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
O Sullivan must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
O Sullivan slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Tatsuya Aoki overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

That's one minute gone in the round.
O Sullivan prevents Aoki from getting back to his feet.

O Sullivan is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Aoki has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. O Sullivan is looking to defend but Aoki has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for O Sullivan! Aoki pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, O Sullivan taps out and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:50 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Tatsuya Aoki!
Tatsuya Aoki decided to thank the fans in attendance for making a great atmosphere. It seemed to go down pretty well.
