PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Josh Berzins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tank Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Tank Smith was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Josh Berzins!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Tank Smith!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, Andrew Berry and Donald Grub.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Berzins throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Smith counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Berzins takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Smith lands a jab.

Smith moves into range and clinches up with Berzins.
Berzins misses with a body punch.
A short right from Smith on the inside.
Berzins trying to control the position but instead, Smith has worked for underhooks and has pushed Berzins into the cage.
Berzins is trying to force a seperation but Smith has the dominant position.

Smith manages to break the clinch.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Berzins shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Berzins was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Smith tries to buck Berzins off but Berzins is having none of it.
Berzins controlling from side mount.
Smith is looking to regain half guard here but Berzins keeps moving and retains side control.

Berzins wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Smith, who protects the arm well.
Berzins trying to control the position but Smith is working away.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Berzins swings around for an armbar but Smith sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Berzins's guard.
Smith pushes down on Berzins's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Smith is looking to take a break and control but Berzins is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Berzins is trying to get back to full guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Berzins is working hard here to advance position.
Berzins might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Berzins on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Berzins tries to get out of the position.
Smith tries to stand but can't do so whilst Berzins controls his leg.
Berzins tries to get to full guard but Smith has control of the leg.
Smith is thwarting Berzins's attempts to control the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Berzins looking for submissions off his back.
Smith prevents Berzins from improving his position.
Berzins trying to control here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Berzins closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Josh Berzins will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Smith throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Berzins shoots in for a double leg but Smith sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Berzins walks into a left hand.
Smith lands with a nice body punch.
Berzins throws an off balance right hand
letting Smith counter with a right hand.
Smith avoids a lazy jab quite easily.

Berzins fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Smith sprawls well initially but Berzins persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Berzins is trying for a kimura here. Smith looks like he's in a lot of pain... and he's tapping out! Berzins wins by kimura!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:57 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Josh Berzins!
A very excited looking Josh Berzins made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
