PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Rasga Calcas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kyle Newman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Calcas comes to the cage accompanied by RAGE. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Calcas closes the distance and clinches.
Newman is defending well against a takedown attempt.

Newman pulls Calcas into guard.
Calcas trying to control the position from guard on top but Newman is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Calcas pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Newman is keeping the position for now.
Newman is looking to stand up but Calcas isn't so interested in that idea.
Calcas trying to control but Newman is working from the bottom.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Rasga Calcas wasn't doing enough on the ground.

Newman has closed the distance and engaged Calcas in a clinch.

Calcas is working for takedown but Newman is calmly controlling the position for now.

It looks like Newman might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

and Newman counters with a three punch combo that has Calcas backing up. Calcas nods at Newman to acknowledge the strikes.

Newman closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Calcas quickly recovers to half guard.
Newman tries to pass the half guard into mount. Calcas knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

The fighters are battling for position here. Calcas manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Calcas wants to stand and escape but Newman is having none of it.

Calcas shoots in but no luck this time.
The fight stays on the outside here - Newman looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Calcas looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Newman is fending him off so far but Calcas persists. Nope, Newman circles away and we're back to standing.
Calcas looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Newman tries to close the distance and clinch but Calcas swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Rasga Calcas is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Calcas misses with an uppercut. Newman saw that one coming.
Newman lands a head kick. Calcas smiles back at him and beckons him forward.

Calcas feints and as Newman raises his hands in defense, Calcas changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Calcas stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Newman swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Newman looking to hit a scissor sweep but Calcas is one step ahead there.
Calcas trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Calcas looking to sit in guard and control but Newman gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Calcas has Newman pulled in close to control his posture.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Newman looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Newman is trying to control. Calcas wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Calcas closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Newman's guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Newman has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Calcas is working away from the top position though.

Calcas is working for a submission of some sort.
Newman wants to improve his position but Calcas is controlling well.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Calcas is pressing down on Newman's thigh, looking to free his foot. Newman is holding on for now.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Rasga Calcas will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

Newman might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Calcas haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Calcas enables Newman to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Calcas manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Calcas shoots in for a takedown but Newman shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Newman shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Calcas's guard.
Newman must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Calcas slips nicely into half guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Kyle Newman comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Newman has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
