The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Some bone on bone action there as Jericho checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Jericho swats away the attempt to clinch by Vera.
Jericho throws a jab when Vera was well out of range.
Caco Vera seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Jericho looks for a takedown but Vera sprawls well.
Vera throws a half hearted mid kick.

Jericho closes the distance and pushes Vera back into the cage.
Vera tries a body shot but Jericho blocks it.

Jericho breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Jericho moves out of range as Vera strikes.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Jericho is defended easily by Vera.

Vera tries to close the distance and clinch up but Jericho swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Jericho wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Vera tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Jericho moves into the clinch successfully.

Jericho has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Vera regains guard immediately.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Jericho's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Vera will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Jericho shoots in for a takedown but Vera shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Jericho manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Vera on his heels. He'll look to pass Vera's guard now, I'm sure.

Vera wants to stand and escape but Jericho is having none of it.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rey Jericho dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Jericho takes the fight into the clinch.

It looks like Caco Vera has been cut.
Vera is pressed up against the cage. Jericho has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Vera down to the mat. Vera avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Jericho fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Vera avoids it really well and circles away.

Jericho dives in and grabs Vera's left leg, looking for a takedown. Vera pushes down on Jericho's head and hops out.
Vera goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Vera looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Vera digs a good body shot into Jericho's ribs.

Jericho shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Jericho was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Rey Jericho has got the better of the ground game so far.
Vera is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Jericho asserts his dominance and retains side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Vera tries to bench press Jericho off him but Jericho keeps the position.
Vera takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.

Vera has his hands clasped together around Jericho's back. He's all about the action.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Jericho connects with a nice short shot to Vera's temple.

Jericho is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Vera is just riding it out for now. Jericho eventually gives up the hold.
Vera pushes Jericho off looking to stand but Jericho dives back in and keeps control.

Jericho has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Vera defend it? Jericho steps over the head and cranks it - Vera is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Jericho!
