PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Charles Stryker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Calgary Alberta (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Stryker kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Die Motherfucker Die by Dope. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 22 - 17 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Charles Stryker!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Calgary Alberta!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Gregory Folan and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Alberta avoids the head kick by Stryker.
Alberta fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Stryker misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Alberta bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Stryker's head backwards.

Alberta gets a clinch.
Alberta has had enough of the clinch but Stryker keeps him there for the moment.

Alberta breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
A left lands for Stryker.
Stryker pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
A swing and a miss from Alberta.

Alberta fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Stryker to the ground. Alberta is now in Stryker's guard.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Alberta wants to stand but Stryker has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Alberta throws a big elbow that misses.

Stryker seems keen to control Alberta's posture.

Alberta drops back, looking for a kneebar! Stryker looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Stryker looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Stryker!

Alberta really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Stryker. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Alberta tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Stryker has advanced to mount. Uh oh.
Alberta is in a horrible position here. Stryker smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

Stryker will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Stryker cracks Alberta with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Alberta tries to lock up and control but Stryker gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Alberta's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
Alberta is looking to get to half guard.
Stryker scores with a couple of good head shots there.


It looks like Calgary Alberta has been cut.
Alberta is looking to improve his position but Stryker isn't that keen on the idea.
Alberta regains half guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Stryker landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Alberta tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Stryker has advanced to mount. Uh oh.

Stryker has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

BOOM! Stryker connects with a massive shot to the dome!


That has opened up Calgary Alberta's cut even more.
Alberta tries to hold on but Stryker postures up.
Stryker tries to control but Alberta wriggling away.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Alberta tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Alberta really wants to buck Stryker off and get back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Alberta blocks a jab.
Stryker tries to clinch but Alberta moves out of range.
Alberta throws out a loose jab but Stryker uses good head movement to avoid it.
Stryker circles away from the clinch attempt.

Alberta takes the fight into the clinch.

Alberta gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Stryker regains guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Alberta looking to sit in guard and control but Stryker gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Alberta has his foot on Stryker's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Stryker works his way back into a safe position though.

Stryker remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Alberta jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Stryker walks away with a smile on his face. Alberta gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Charles Stryker has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Calgary Alberta.
Stryker thows a body shot but no joy.
Stryker shoots for a takedown but Alberta saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
