And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Tiny Johnson and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nutz swinging wilding here.
Nutz looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!

Woodward forces Nutz back against the cage and clinches.

Woodward turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
Woodward moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.

Woodward stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Woodward swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Woodward scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
A solid leg kick lands there for Woodward.
Nutz throws a wild body kick that Woodward sees coming a mile off.
Nutz tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Woodward scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

Woodward slows the pace down in half guard.
Nutz wants to control but Woodward passes into side.
A lull in the action here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Nutz is trying to improve his position.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Alejandro Woodward just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.

Woodward drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Woodward forces his way into half guard.

Nutz tries to get to full guard but Woodward has control of the leg.

Woodward stands up out of the half guard.
Nutz shoots and misses

so Woodward counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Woodward is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Woodward seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Nutz for as long as he can get away with.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Woodward shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Woodward showed some decent athleticism there.

Woodward has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Nutz's face.

Alejandro Woodward overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Nutz really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Woodward. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Nutz can do anything to dispel that myth.
Woodward's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Woodward seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Nutz wants to improve his position but Woodward is controlling well.

That's time! Woodward's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!



Woodward looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Woodward is on top in guard.

Woodward cracks Nutz with a solid left hand.

Woodward stands up from Nutz's guard - Woodward perhaps looking for a knockout.

Woodward looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Nutz!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Nutz gets back to half guard.
Woodward is keen to just control but Nutz is a slippery customer.
Woodward is taking a breather. Nutz says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Woodward seems to be working for a kimura but Nutz defends the submission attempt.
Woodward tries to pass to full mount but Nutz defends it.
Ground and pound from Woodward.
Nutz has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Woodward is working away from the top position though.
Woodward looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Nutz with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Woodward in particular looking to stall.
Nutz tries to get to full guard but Woodward has control of the leg.
Woodward prevents Nutz from standing back up.
Woodward works his way into full mount!
Woodward lands a heavy elbow.
Slap Nutz has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Woodward is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Nutz can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

And that's the end of the fight!

Well Woodward has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
