Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between George St Pierre (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Coronel Avas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). There are an array of beautiful celebrities at ringside tonight! I wonder if any of them paid for their tickets.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, George St Pierre!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Coronel Avas!
The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Shirou Masuda and Taro Takaoka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
St Pierre defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Avas.
Avas tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and St Pierre moves into the clinch.
Avas misses with a knee strike.
Avas has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
A short uppercut from St Pierre.

St Pierre pulls guard effortlessly.
St Pierre has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Avas has passed into side control.
Avas trying to control the position but St Pierre is working away.
Avas working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Avas blocks the strikes from St Pierre.
St Pierre tries to bench press Avas off him but Avas keeps the position.
St Pierre is trying to control Avas's posture but Avas avoids it.
St Pierre is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Avas has just dragged him back down to the mat.
St Pierre tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Avas presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!
Avas takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Avas moves to the back.
St Pierre trying to control the hands but Avas won't let him.

Avas working for the choke.
St Pierre turns into Avas and is now in his guard.

Avas looking for a sweep. Not yet Avas, not yet.
Avas wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Avas is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and St Pierre dives into side control.

St Pierre tries for a kimura but Avas is defending well.

St Pierre wants to take a breather but Avas manages to regain guard - a lesson learnt for St Pierre.

A close round but Coronel Avas will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


St Pierre misses with a takedown attempt - Avas sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Avas has managed to clinch.
Avas creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses.

St Pierre manages to pull guard.

St Pierre looking for subs off his back but Avas has passed one foot through into half guard.
St Pierre tries to roll over but Avas keeps him under control.
Avas is trying to control the action in half guard but St Pierre is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Avas is stalling here. St Pierre is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Avas seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and St Pierre has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
Avas takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
St Pierre really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
St Pierre in side control, just content to control the action for now.

St Pierre tries to score with some ground and pound. Avas controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
St Pierre wants to control for a moment but Avas uses the opportunity to move back to half guard.
Avas wants to control but St Pierre is keeping busy and won't allow it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Avas regains full guard. Nicely done.
George St Pierre overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
St Pierre wants to control from the top but Avas keeps moving.

The ref stands the fighters back up. George St Pierre wasn't doing enough on the ground.
St Pierre misses with a two punch combination.

St Pierre dives in and scores a takedown into Avas's guard.
Avas has a closed guard, preventing St Pierre from standing up.

St Pierre trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Avas trying to control the position.
St Pierre will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Coronel Avas hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

St Pierre keeps the fight on the outside.

St Pierre has closed the distance and engaged Avas in a clinch.
Avas is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but St Pierre is defending well.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

St Pierre gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Avas regains guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

George St Pierre dominated that second round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Avas closes the distance looking to clinch

and St Pierre counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
St Pierre jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Avas walks away with a smile on his face. St Pierre gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Avas tries to clinch there but St Pierre circles away.
Avas shoots in looking for a takedown. St Pierre tries to sprawl out of it but Avas keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. St Pierre manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
St Pierre shoots for a takedown but Avas saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Avas pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Avas is looking to clinch but St Pierre is avoiding it.
St Pierre tries to land a leg kick but Avas saw it coming and moves away.

St Pierre bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

That's one minute gone in the round.
St Pierre tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
St Pierre happy to just control the position for now.
Avas can't do much from the bottom here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

St Pierre goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Avas rolls with the submission and now he's on top in St Pierre's guard! Nice work there by Avas!

Avas trying to control but St Pierre is working from the bottom.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
St Pierre is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Avas is controlling him.

Avas got a little sloppy there for a moment and St Pierre has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Avas has managed to get both his arms back between St Pierre's legs - danger averted.

St Pierre looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Avas has picked St Pierre up and slammed him! St Pierre can't keep hold of the triangle and Avas manages to pass to side control!
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Avas controlling from side mount.
Let's hope that Avas has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Avas is looking to take a break and control but St Pierre is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
St Pierre tries to bench press Avas off him but Avas keeps the position.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to George St Pierre.
I think St Pierre has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
