PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Evan Pike (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Don Piano (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Evan Pike has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Evan Pike seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

With a record of 17 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Don Piano!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Piano connects with a single shot there.
Pike misses with a wild body shot.
Pike throws a poor cross that misses
and Piano counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Pike misses with a head kick.
Pike throws an off balance right hand
and Piano counters with a left to the body.
Piano scores to the head and body with a nice combination!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Piano looking to score a takedown here. Pike is defending well but Piano drives through and ends up in Pike's guard.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Piano is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Piano is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Don Piano has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Piano shoots for a double leg takedown but Pike sprawls well. He's pushed Piano's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

and Piano counters with a three punch combo that has Pike backing up. Pike nods at Piano to acknowledge the strikes.

Piano shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Piano showed some decent athleticism there.
Piano wants to pass to mount but Pike is defending the position.

Piano wants to take a breather but Pike is having none of it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Piano keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Don Piano was stalling too much, according to the referee.

and Piano counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Piano uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Pike.

Piano will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Pike up against the cage.

Piano will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Piano throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Pike loads up on a big right hand but Piano slips the punch.
Pike is really struggling to find his range with his punches. Piano's reach advantage is clearly causing him problems.

Pike feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Pianos jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!

Pike misses with a hook. Piano ducked under it nicely.
Piano tries to bum rush Pike with a series of wild strikes but Pike uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Piano is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Pike rather than just go for the knockout.
Piano shoots in for a takedown but Pike shows good takedown defense.

Piano changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Pike looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Piano is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Piano is trying to move to mount but Pike reverses beautifully and ends up in Piano's guard.
Pike is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Piano tries to score a power double leg takedown but Pike sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Piano somewhat.
