PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tom Cat (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mister Vengeance (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Vengeance's choice of entrance music: Melt-Banana - Shield For Your Eyes, A Beast in the Well on Your Hand. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 19 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tom Cat!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 10 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mister Vengeance!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Robert Twigg and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vengeance throws a lazy head kick

and Cat counters with a nice double leg into side control. Vengeance won't be happy with that.
Vengeance is looking for a sweep.

Cat thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Cat looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Cat trying to control the position but Vengeance is working away.
Cat lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Cat wants to control but Vengeance is keeping him busy.
Vengeance tries to bench press Cat off him but Cat keeps the position.

Vengeance can't do much from the bottom here.
Vengeance defending against the ground and pound.
Cat will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Vengeance is looking to reverse the position.
Vengeance is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Cat off and has taken his back!
Vengeance keeps control of the position as Cat tries to break free.

Vengeance has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Cat has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
Vengeance has the hooks in. Cat is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.

Vengeance doesn't have the hooks in and Cat manages to turn into his guard.
Cat is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Cat trying to control but Vengeance is working from the bottom.
Cat advances to half guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Vengeance is looking to improve his position.
Cat looks to score some points with some ground and pound.

Cat is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Vengeance defends it well.

Vengeance tries to roll over but Cat keeps him under control.
Cat working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Vengeance gets full guard.
Cat lands a couple of elbows.

Vengeance had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Cat defends it easily.

Vengeance is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Cat scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Vengeance wants to improve his position but Cat is controlling well.
Cat lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Cat looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Vengeance won't allow Cat to pass to mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tom Cat dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Vengeance throws a lazy head kick
and Cat cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Cat shoots in and bounces Vengeance off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Cat working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Vengeance has momentary wrist control but Cat slips an elbow through the middle.


Vengeance is rocked!
Cat trying to control but Vengeance is working from the bottom.
Vengeance is still in real trouble! Can Cat finish him?
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Cat looking to sit in guard and control but Vengeance gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Cat working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Vengeance doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Vengeance manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Vengeance seems to have recovered his senses.
Cat is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Cat escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Vengeance gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Vengeance slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Vengeance wants to control but Cat is keeping him busy.
Vengeance advances nicely into full mount.

Cat tries to hold on but Vengeance postures up.

Cat keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Tom Cat overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Cat sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
Cat wants to get back to full guard.

Vengeance is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Cat has managed to free his arm - good work.
Cat is looking to improve his position.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Cat has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Vengeance is working away from the top position though.

Cat isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Vengeance stacks Cat on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Vengeance!

Cat gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Vengeance is thwarting Cat's attempts to control the position.

Vengeance is working for a submission of some sort.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Vengeance is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Cat is just riding it out for now. Vengeance eventually gives up the hold.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Cat shoots in looking for a takedown. Vengeance tries to sprawl out of it but Cat keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Vengeance manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Vengeance lands a head kick!
Cat misses with a takedown attempt - Vengeance sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Vengeance keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Mister Vengeance is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Cat shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Vengeance manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Cat throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Vengeance works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Cat got a little sloppy there for a moment and Vengeance has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Cat has managed to get both his arms back between Vengeance's legs - danger averted.

Mister Vengeance has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Vengeance keeping moving, preventing Cat from controlling successfully.
Cat keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Vengeance's head.

Vengeance is looking to control Cat's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Vengeance avoid being mounted?

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Cat, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
