Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the bantamweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Kevin Riley! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Matt Preston! The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Frank Antenori and Timothy Bukovac.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Excellent takedown into side control there by Preston. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. Preston wants to lay and pray for a moment but Riley keeps working. Preston gets to mount! Riley was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly. Preston with the ground and pound from mount. Preston can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Riley is looking to escape. Riley tries to hold on but Preston postures up. Preston looking to control but Riley is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Riley is in all sorts of trouble here.
Riley is squirming around, avoiding Preston's attempts to control the action. Riley is desperately trying to improve his position but Preston has a good base and remains in mount. Riley is working hard here to advance position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Preston tries to control but Riley wriggling away. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Riley tries to lock up and control but Preston gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Preston lands a big elbow. Riley is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Preston controlling the position easily from mount. Preston has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Riley wants to hold on but Preston pushes him away. Preston trying to control but Riley is having none of it. Riley sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though. Riley on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Riley tries to get out of the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Riley avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Preston. Preston thows a huge punch but Riley dodges it nicely.
Riley looking for submissions off his back. Riley with the active half guard here but Preston passes nicely into side control. Riley is letting Preston control him for a moment. Riley could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. This has been an exciting period of action! Riley is looking to reverse the position. Riley is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Preston off and has taken his back! Riley looking for the RNC. Riley gets his hands free as Preston looks to control.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Riley wants to control but Preston is keeping busy. Riley is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Preston is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him. Preston tries to roll but Riley sticks to his back.
Preston is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Riley tightening his grip on Preston, looking for the choke. Preston showing good submission defense here.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Preston trying to control the action but Riley just sinks the hooks in. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Riley working for a RNC but it's not happening just yet. Riley is working for the choke. It looks like he might have got it... has he...? Yes! Preston is tapping out! This one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:34 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Kevin Riley! Kevin Riley retains his bantamweight title! After winning the bout, Kevin Riley thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
