Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Mike Sykes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Benedict Holmes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Holmes has chosen Am I Demon by Danzig as his entrance music. Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Mike Sykes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Benedict Holmes!
The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Paul Gruel and Roger Salmon.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Holmes rushes Sykes and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Holmes lands a body punch.
Holmes stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
Sykes has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Holmes is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Holmes lands a takedown into guard.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Sykes tries to land a sweep but no joy.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Holmes seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Holmes postures up in Sykes's guard and throws a big left but Sykes blocks it.

Sykes looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Holmes stands and throws Sykes's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Holmes controls the position.
Sykes throwing some weak shots from the bottom that do no damage.
You can see the frustration on Sykes's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Sykes is looking for a sweep.
Sykes is trying to control Holmes's posture but Holmes avoids it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Holmes tries to advance position but instead Sykes slips a leg back in to half guard.
Holmes is pressing down on Sykes's thigh, looking to free his foot. Sykes is holding on for now.

Holmes is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Sykes still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Sykes has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work!

Sykes working the strikes but Holmes uses the opportunity to regain half guard.
Holmes is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
Sykes seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Holmes does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Holmes kicks Sykes off and gets back to his feet.

Holmes moves into the clinch successfully.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Sykes breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Sykes shoots in for a takedown but Holmes shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Sykes lands a left hand.

Holmes is taking a breather. Sykes says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Benedict Holmes.
Holmes misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Sykes shoots in but Holmes avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Holmes defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Sykes.
Holmes tries to clinch up but Sykes circles away and keeps his distance.

Sykes is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.

Holmes is pressed up against the cage. Sykes has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Holmes down to the mat. Holmes avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Sykes is working for takedown but Holmes is calmly controlling the position for now.

Holmes tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Sykes avoids it.

Holmes breaks from the clinch.
Holmes looks to land a combination. Sykes sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Sykes keeps the fight on the outside.

Holmes gets a double leg takedown into Sykes's guard.
Holmes must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Sykes looking for a sweep. Not yet Sykes, not yet.
Holmes is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Sykes misses with a takedown attempt - Holmes sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Sykes tries to score a power double leg takedown but Holmes sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Sykes somewhat.
Holmes shoots in for a takedown but Sykes shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Sykes avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Holmes decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Sykes trying to hold on to Holmes's head to control him but Holmes postures up.

Holmes stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Sykes to get to his feet.
Holmes tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Sykes paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Sykes shoots in and drives through. Holmes sprawls well.
Sykes shoots for a double leg takedown but Holmes sprawls well. He's pushed Sykes's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Benedict Holmes is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Mike Sykes has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Holmes's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!

Benedict Holmes comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Holmes has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
