PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jorge Kalawit (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Paul Zidel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Zidel has chosen Are You In? - Incubus as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jorge Kalawit!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Paul Zidel!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Stewart Dunkirk and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kalawit swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Zidel counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Kalawit is lucky that one didn't land flush.

Oooh a lovely combination from Kalawit sends Zidel down but not out. Kalawit dives into side control looking to finish.


It looks like Paul Zidel has been cut.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Kalawit goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Zidel has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Kalawit but great work by Zidel.
Zidel is trying to ground and pound but Kalawit uses the momentary lack of control by Zidel to regain half guard.

Zidel is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Kalawit defends it well.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kalawit makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Kalawit.
Zidel throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Kalawit works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Kalawit is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Zidel postures up in Kalawit's guard and throws a big left but Kalawit blocks it.

That's time! Kalawit's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Kalawit shoots in looking for a takedown. Zidel tries to sprawl out of it but Kalawit keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Zidel manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Kalawit throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Zidel.
Zidel tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Sloppy strikes from Kalawit. Those never looked like landing.

and Zidel counters with a head kick. That will keep Kalawit thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!

Oh Kalawit is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

Zidel is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Kalawit defends well.

Zidel seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Kalawit has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Zidel can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

And that's the end of the fight!
Paul Zidel comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Zidel has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
