Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Michael Akins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jesus Sucres (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Michael Akins! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jesus Sucres! The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Jeff Smith and Colin Fray.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Akins shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Akins drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Sucres dodges the ground and pound from Akins. Akins works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head. Sucres manages to get one leg in to regain half guard. Sucres trying to get back to full guard but Akins takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount! Akins raining down shots from the mount! Akins has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Akins thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
Sucres is trying to escape the mount.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Sucres wants to hold on but Akins pushes him away.
That's one minute gone in the round. Akins tries to control but Sucres wriggling away. Akins lands a big elbow. Akins tries to control but Sucres wriggling away. Akins scoring with strikes but Sucres is staying in there. Sucres is trying desperately to improve position. Akins unloading with bombs! Sucres is looking to get to half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Akins jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Sucres manages to avoid the submission attempt. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Sucres tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Akins wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Sucres prevents Akins from improving position. Akins could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Sucres tries to get back to half guard but can't. Akins lands a few punches from side control.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Akins working away. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Akins controls the position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Akins has knee on belly and moves into mount. Akins breaks from Sucres's wrist control and lands an elbow. Sucres is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Akins trying to control but he's not successful this time. Akins goes for an armbar but Sucres turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Sucres. Sucres trying to control the position from guard on top but Akins is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Sucres is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Sucres shoots for a takedown but Akins saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Michael Akins dominated that round. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.
Akins throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Sucres on the side of the head.
It looks like Jesus Sucres has been cut. Akins swats away the attempt to clinch by Sucres. A looping hook to the body misses from Akins. Sucres does a little dance to reset his feet. Sucres fails in his attempt to clinch. Sucres shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. The fight stays on the outside here - Akins looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Akins fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Sucres drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Akins looking for a sweep but Sucres has passed into full mount! Oh no!
That's one minute gone in the round. Akins trying desperately to get to his feet.
Sucres trying to control but he's not successful this time. Akins really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Sucres is in the full mount, landing strikes.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Sucres punishing his opponent with strikes. Sucres takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Sucres can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Akins is looking to escape. Sucres landing strikes from the mount and Akins is in trouble! This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Akins can't escape the position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Akins is working hard here to advance position. Sucres tries to control but Akins wriggling away. Sucres takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Sucres goes for an armbar but Akins turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Akins. Sucres has a closed guard, preventing Akins from standing up.
That's four minutes gone in the round.
The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Jesus Sucres wasn't active enough on the ground. Sucres fails with the takedown. Sucres is breathing heavily. Sucres throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Akins's waist but Akins gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Sucres off to one side. Michael Akins has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jesus Sucres. Sucres stuffs the takedown attempt from Akins. Akins gets slowly back to his feet. Sucres rushes Akins and presses him up against the cage. Sucres wants to break the clinch but can't.
Akins stalling.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Sucres lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Jesus Sucres showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The cut man is working on Jesus Sucres's cut. That's time! Akins's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!
Akins keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Akins dives in and grabs Sucres's left leg, looking for a takedown. Sucres pushes down on Akins's head and hops out. Akins shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Sucres sprawls well. Sucres wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Akins gets slowly back to his feet. Sucres swats away the attempt to clinch by Akins. Nice takedown defense from Akins. No joy for Sucres on that attempt. Akins closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Sucres quickly recovers to half guard. Sucres wants to get back to full guard but Akins has mounted him! Sucres is just holding on here. Akins manages to take his back.
That's one minute gone in the round. Sucres is trapped and Akins is scoring with shots to the head and body. Sucres takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. I would not like to be Sucres right now.
Sucres trying to control but not successfully. Akins is working for the choke. It looks like he might have got it... has he...? Yes! Sucres is tapping out! This one is all over!
