Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Justin Riggs (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rector Simmons (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rector Simmons will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Justin Riggs!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Rector Simmons!
The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Micheangelo Fripello and Chris Saunders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Simmons bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Riggs's head.


It looks like Justin Riggs has been cut.

Riggs is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Simmons's half guard.
Riggs trying to mount his opponent but Simmons defends it.
Simmons throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Well, if Riggs is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Simmons has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Riggs is working away from the top position though.
Riggs wants to get back to his feet.

Riggs tries to pass to full mount but Simmons defends it.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Simmons can do anything to dispel that myth.

Simmons is trying to get back to full guard.

Riggs stands up from half guard.
Simmons looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Riggs tries for a takedown but Simmons circles away easily
and Simmons counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Riggs is lucky that one didn't land flush.
Simmons takes a swing at Riggs's ribcage but misses.
Riggs takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Simmons defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Riggs.

and Riggs holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Simmons's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Riggs tries to clinch there but Simmons circles away.
Simmons jabs Riggs to the body, keeping him at a distance.

and Riggs counters with a nice double leg into side control. Simmons won't be happy with that.
Justin Riggs has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rector Simmons.
Riggs grinds an elbow into Simmons's temple.

Riggs in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Simmons tries to improve position but can't.

Riggs tries for a kimura but Simmons is defending well.
Simmons throws a couple of strikes even though he's not really in a good position to do so.
Simmons is trying to control Riggs's posture but Riggs avoids it.
Simmons regains half guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Riggs tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Simmons.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Simmons showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Riggs.
Riggs changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Simmons tries to avoid it but Riggs manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Simmons to the ground. Simmons escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Riggs swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Riggs stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Riggs wants it to stay on the feet.
Simmons looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Simmons swats away the attempt to clinch by Riggs.

Riggs throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.

Riggs pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Riggs tries to clinch but Simmons is having none of it.
Justin Riggs is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Riggs misses with a left hand
and Simmons counters with a nice low kick that buckles Riggs's knee momentarily.
Simmons shoots for a takedown but Riggs saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Riggs takes a kick to the side of the head.

Riggs throws a body kick, spinning off balance
and Simmons counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Riggs tries to land a front kick but Simmons steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.

Simmons clinches up with Riggs and pushes him back against the cage.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Riggs working a defensive guard but Simmons manages to pass into side control anyway.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Simmons content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.

Simmons has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Riggs moves into the clinch.
Simmons has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Riggs avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Riggs misses with a shot to the kidneys.

Simmons pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Simmons has a takedown stuffed.
Simmons circles away from the clinch attempt.
Riggs tries to clinch but Simmons moves out of range.

Simmons looking to score a takedown here. Riggs is defending well but Simmons drives through and ends up in Riggs's guard.
Riggs is trying to keep Simmons in close.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Riggs looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Riggs wants to hit a switch here but Simmons passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Riggs there!

Simmons trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Riggs is desperately trying to improve his position but Simmons has a good base and remains in mount.
Simmons scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Riggs?
Riggs is looking to get to half guard.
BOOM! Simmons connects with a massive shot to the dome!

Riggs tries to reverse the position but Simmons maintains control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rector Simmons showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Riggs closes the distance and clinches.
Riggs misses with a body punch.
Riggs looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Simmons can't get the takedown.

Riggs manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Riggs is on top in guard.
Riggs advances to half guard.
Simmons is looking to improve his position.

Simmons pushes Riggs off looking to stand but Riggs dives back in and keeps control.
Riggs wants to take a breather but Simmons is having none of it.

Simmons kicks Riggs off and gets back to his feet.
Simmons tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Riggs counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Simmons takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Simmons has his takedown stuffed

and Riggs counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Simmons has hold of Riggs's hands but Riggs slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Riggs content to control rather than advance.

Riggs is looking for a kimura but Simmons is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Riggs to get the leverage.

Riggs is pressing down on Simmons's thigh, looking to free his foot. Simmons is holding on for now.
Riggs is thwarting Simmons's attempts to control the position.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Riggs lands a nice short elbow.
Justin Riggs overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Simmons is trying to get back to full guard.

Riggs is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Simmons defends it well.

Riggs tries to keep at a distance but Simmons has taken the fight into the clinch.

Simmons tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Simmons is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.

Simmons manages to break the clinch.
